July 21, 200916 yr Commercial Member Hi, i am just learning the autopilot & ILS, using the G1000 and the tutorial that came with the quest Kodiak. I have followed the instructions exactly as far as I can tell and all works exactly as it should, except the last bit of the approach, when you switch from CDI(GPS) to CDI(NNAV1). Instead of picking up or displaying the localizer track, it seems to pick up and indicate VOR1 in the dial. This points me of centre to the runway. Does anyone have any idea what I have done or am doing wrong? I have re flown 3 times and same thing happens each time.thx, Mark
July 21, 200916 yr Mark,Did you activate the ILS approach in the MFD and tune the NAV1 radio to the ILS freq? These steps are covered in that tutorial, if it's the same one as I have (using as an example a flight from KAPF to KRSW). Wayne KlocknerUnited Virtual
July 21, 200916 yr Author Commercial Member Hi Rudi, I definitely set Nav1 to 111.5 and swapped it with the rocker switch to the left hand side as described. Also swapped in the ils. I just flew it again and it all worked perfectly, i was even lined up this time, but it still did not say LOC1 on the dial, it said VOR1.Like i say, I am pretty positive I have set everything as instructed. What does VOR1 in the dial indicate or mean? Perhaps I can work back from that to find the error?thx, Mark
July 22, 200916 yr Regardless of how its labeled (VOR: LOC: VOR/LOC), as long as the info in the display is green and not magenta, its tracking from a VOR or LOC.
July 22, 200916 yr Mark - You're right; I can't get a LOC1 indication on the Kodiak's G1000 either (although I thought I had on an earlier attempt). Everything else works: loading the ILS approach, the Kodiak's autopilot flying the procedure turn, and even the autopilot capturing the glideslope and flying the vertical component of the approach. But my PFD shows VOR1, which is strange, considering that the NAV1 radio is tuned to KRSW's localizer (111.5) instead of KRSW's VOR (111.8). And as you point out, this is contrary to the tutorial...I'll call the developer's attention to this bug. Wayne KlocknerUnited Virtual
July 22, 200916 yr Author Commercial Member Cool, I thought I was doing something wrong, but it was driving me mad, as I had followed everything religiously. problem is when you are learning you dont have anything to judge by....I am going to try the same scenario, but at a different airport and in a different plane that uses the same G1000 & see what happens, thx, Mark
