July 26, 200916 yr Don't get alarmed, this is a FS2004 fire :)I placed a Flashing Beacon at OKBK Airport this morning. Did a short flight, landed, on taxiing to 'the Gate' I noticed a plume of black smoke rising heavenwards - closer inspection revealed it was my Flashing Beacon!!This 'new' to me, even after apprx. 10 years simming. Anyone know if this is 'normal'?Ken
July 26, 200916 yr That is strange -I am still on vacation so cannot check my files at home but a couple of things come to mind that you might check -1. Try placing it again - (delete the current bgl for the beacon which you made) - perhaps you clicked on the wrong "object".The "fire" would appear to be one of the animated effects by Ron Jeffers rather than the default beacon.2. Which "library" were you drawing from? If memory serves, the beacon is in the generic.bgl.It very rarely happens but it is possible that the GUID number for both objects is the same and FS2004 is using the first one it finds. That is extremely rare however - at least in my experience. In may not matter but I keep my Statuc Objects Library just above the default required scenery entries in the FS2004 library dialogue. One reason I now use Instant Scenery or EZ - after using RWY12 since it saw the light of day - is that you can actually see what you are placing and where you place it. The "what you see is what you get" interface, which is lacking in RWY12, elliminates most "human" errors.Keep us posted.
July 26, 200916 yr Hello David, thanks for your reply, sorry to interrupt your vacation.I replaced the .bgl and the beacon is working fine, at the moment. The beacon, or gen_stack01 (flashing light) was in Fs9 Navaids. Thats about the limit of my Rwy12 knowledge. Will have a look at Instant Scenery and EZ, though Rwy12 has been a good companion, never given any problems...until now :)Ken

That is enough for you to get the hang of how they work. Both can place all of the FS default objects, all of the RWY12 objects and all of the EZ style library objects, I have both but think IS is a much better investment (both cost approx. the same) as it has a number of additional features and works in both FS2004 and FSX.Good luck! :(
July 27, 200916 yr Hello David, the bad news is the replacement 'Flashing light' is also on fire! I have now removed the .bgl.I'll have a look at Instant Scenery after all. :( Ken
July 28, 200916 yr The object you placed is actually a smoke stack. The smoke you see is a built in effect of the stack. You might want to check your library and make sure your files are linked to the proper objects.
