radar contact and other aircraft addons

helloi was wondering: is there any way that radar contact ATC and the flight plan in the FMS will go toghether. for exemple: if there is an option that the ATC will tell me to start decending in proximity to the FMS/ND's "top of decent" (t/d)? in some addons, like LDS 767, it is a problem to start decending before t/d if youre flight auto.thank you.

I find that RC gives me a reasonably timed descent from high level with the LDL 767.usually about 30 miles early. But I usually ask for a PD.If you don't get that you can initiate a shallow descent via the FMC vertical mode and eventually you will catch up with your profile.Or just do a 500 fpm descent manually and you will soon catch up.

On the FMS DESC page or somewhere you can find a DESCEND NOW command on most Boeing FMCs. This does not guarantee you'll meet the crossing restriction when issued.Like Chris I use the FLCHG to inititiate an engine idle fast descent and adjust V/S.I put a 40 nm range ring around the airport on the FIX page. On the FIX page key in your destination airport code and the put /40 in the range/heading. On the ND you'll see a dashed circle around the airport. As you descend after being issued your ATC restriction you should see descent trend arcs and be sure they do not go beyond the range ring. This in my opinion is easier than placing a fix with a hard altitude on your route at a fixed location and more flexible should ATC vector you off the displayed track.
