August 1, 200916 yr Hallo,I have the strangest problem and maybe someone has an idea about the reason of this. In FS X Accel (SP2) on Pentium D (that is one of the first dual cores) I get OK FPS, slightly lower, but with intermittent stutters with FPS of about 5-6 FPS. However when I set FSX.exe affinity in Task Manager to Core 1 only (disable FS X on core 2) I get almost double frame-rates constant no stutters. Setting to Core 2 only disables stutters but slightly lower frame-rates then on 1. I have not touched the FSX.cfg. When monitoring Task Manager, FS X stutters when CPU goes up to 100% on both, and then it returns to about 95% on 1st CPU and about 35% on 2nd core. Then runs properly for a few seconds when again 100% and stutters for a few seconds. The 100 CPU usage is from FSX.exe, not other background app.Any ideas?Eric BocaneanuACCRO1PS. August 1, 200916 yr FS is a CPU dependent game. it looks at the CPU and wants all computing power. with the limited dual core ability of FSX some processes are dumped to a second processor. so ... depending on the type of flying done one may see some 'CPU use changes'. 100% CPU use most of the time is normal.-- D. August 2, 200916 yr with the limited dual core ability of FSX some processes are dumped to a second processor. What exactly is 'the limited dual core ability of FSX', Scoob? Did you mean limited number of threads or smth else? Thanks,Dirk. Edited August 2, 200916 yr by Dirk98

August 2, 200916 yr What exactly is 'the limited dual core ability of FSX', Scoob? Did you mean limited number of threads or smth else?dirk:FSX cannot just 'use' two cores. FSX can only 'pass off' some of the game processes to a second core. if memory serves these are some of the processes related to scenery.FSX is a single core applicaton that received a limited patch that allows the game to use some of the multicore tech now available.-- D. August 2, 200916 yr I find FSX runs much better if assigned to one core. I have ASA and if left using the same core as FSX will cause stutters and freezing. I put ASA on one core and FSX on the other. I also move anyother proccess's that have noticable cpu usage to the same core as ASA, basicly I have 1 core for FSX and one for everything else. Seems to work well for me
August 5, 200916 yr Author Hallo,I do expect the processor to be at 100% in FS. The strange thing is that when it's at 60% it works fine, while when it moves at 100% (for no apparent reason) it starts to stutter. I think it should at least use the processor at 100% full time, and at least when it's using the processor more, not have stutters. The 100% is not related to any other process, or task in FS. Just level flight. No view change, or rendering other then the usual.--eric Eric Bocaneanu ROvACC Director
