August 5, 200916 yr Jim,I know that you will see a dramatic improvement. I don't see single digits. It depends on what's important to you. If you run at dense and disable car traffic you will see 30's in all the major cities. As Nick points out. It's about having a properly configured system. MSFS
August 5, 200916 yr Get Windows 7. Get Windows 7. Get Windows 7. Oh, did I mention: Get Windows 7. (hehe)I plan to get a i7 920 ($280.00)(next week). Now you bust my bubble! For me to get the 970 ($999.00) I would have to wait until November. (What to do..what to do..?)Chuck BNapamulePS: Sassquash: 'Mushkin Ascent Redlines .... take my system to 1600 MHz in memory speed'. ARE YOU SURE about that? I predict you will get worse 'performance' if you put those in. Keep what you got. (Remember you heard it here first.)

I'm soliciting opinions on migrating the files, scenery, etc.Mark

My system runs great except for extreme situations like I mentioned in my post. I think I'm going to set up a FSX.cfg just for flying a commercial aircraft addon into/from San Francisco at dusk/night w/real world weather turned on and with MegaEarth Calif, UTX, and Aerosoft's City of San Fran installed. I have been doing more research and think it's not the time to upgrade (except an upgrade to Windows 7 64bit from Vista Premium 32bit). I think Microsoft will be surprising us someday soon with FS too and that might affect my future purchasing decisions.Best regards,Jim Young
August 7, 200916 yr Ok well I upgraded my E8400 machine to an i920 based machine this week and it is at least 50% faster than the E8400 at the same speed. I am currently running it at 3.98Ghz. The chip seems like a gem so far as it required very little increase in vcore to get there and so far no other voltage changes have been required. I am idling at 42C average among all cores and under prime95 load it hits lows 70's. In FSX or in other games the temps rarely exceed 60C. I could probably do 4.2ghz if I felt like putting in the extra hours to tweak and test it. 4ghz is good enough for me. There was exactly a 30% increase in frame rate between 2.8ghz and 3.98ghz sitting on the runway at KSEA. I'm not sure why your 975 isn't scaling but that is certainly not what I have seen here.
