August 3, 200916 yr Got a relativly new PC, not the "latest and greatest" but still runs FSX well. The issue is when I turn anti-aliasing on. I have most all the sliders in FSX to the max, and without anti-aliasing on I regularly get FPS in the 25-35 range when close to the ground. When I turn AA on it turns into a slide show, 5-6 FPS. I have tried checking the box in FSX and changing the settings on the card itself and both have the same effect, the graphics look great but it is a slide show.I figure this is the video card's fault right? The specs:Core 2 duo E8400 3.00Ghz2GB ramSapphire ATI Radeon HD 3650 1GB 128-bit GDDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 (the PC's PCI-E slot is not 2.0)1 22" LCD monitor running at 1680X1050 32bit 60Hz.FSX w/ SP2Like I said, cheap card 1 reason I got it was so I wouldn't have to upgrade the power supply (300 Watts) guess I will need to now.SO any suggestions on a better card for FSX? I love having the scenery turned up but it is so disappointing having the jagged edges. Thanks Jason Miller CFI/I
August 3, 200916 yr I have the same CPU as you do, and if you are using Windows XP 32, I would not recommend anything higher than what I am using - which is the 9800 GTX+ 512. That should give you a good boost in the arm with AA. It's basically the same thing as a Nividia 250 GTS 512.

August 4, 200916 yr Author Thanks for the help guys,So looking at the 9800 there is the GT, GTX, and GTX+ is there a significant difference to consider here? Or would the cheapest of the three be the best way to go?I also have noticed in some things I have read that you should get something with more than 512mb?Thanks. Jason Miller CFI/I
August 4, 200916 yr Author Came across this chart:http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/gaming-...-X-SP2,784.htmlLooks like the 9800GTX is the best bang for the buck (plus I couldn't find 8800GTS for sale on newegg) But I can only find the 9800GT and the 9800GTX+ on newegg, guess the GTX+ is better? August 6, 200916 yr Author Found this card on sale, looks like the one right?http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...LC1A-_-14130339For a power supply, not sure what I need, an ATX I guess? The PC is a Dell Vostro 220, haven't found any Dell documentation about what type of PSU to use.http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...LC3D-_-17341012Thanks, Jason Miller CFI/I
August 6, 200916 yr I have that same card and it was a great improvement over my previous gt8600. It comes with a Y adapter and you can use any 2 free power plugs from your current PSU if you don't have a new 6-pin type.
August 6, 200916 yr Author Good to hear.I will be getting a new PSU, mine is only 300 watts. I assume an ATX PSU is what I need.Thank you Jason Miller CFI/I
August 9, 200916 yr The OCZ which you provided the link to will not cut it. According to the specs this card needs +12 Volt current rating of 24 Amps. And the PSU provides only 18A on the 12Volt rail. Unless there is something that I am missing here...
August 9, 200916 yr Author From what I am reading, the GTS250 is the same as the 9800GTX but smaller and draws less power, so maybe that is the answer? The 9800GTX looked like the winner on this chart, but if the GTS250 is the same you would think the performance would be as well.http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/gaming-...-X-SP2,784.htmlIs the 4850 or 4870 even worth considering? the performance on the chart doesn't look as promising. August 10, 200916 yr My bad...I take that back. The PSU has two 12V rails each providing 18A resulting in 36A total...I didn't look at that. That PSU should be good enough.Cheers,F.K.

From some of the articles I have read I think I will grab the 9800GTX+ and then go from there. Thanks for all the help! (been a while since I bought a decent PSU and vid card) Jason Miller CFI/I
