Altimeter readout completely wrong

Featured Replies

Hi,Just crossed over to FSX to do some flying and I'm getting really bizarre altimeter readouts. For example was trying to do a flight a few days ago and when I was cruising at FL350 my altimeter was reading 10700ft. It's almost as if it's reading altitude in metres but not quite right :( . Anyone else ever had this problem? I've installed all the big aircraft addons, LDS PMDG Captain Sim and was using Activesky advanced at the same time, but no matter what weather conditions or plane I'm using they're all giving the wrong information in the altimeter. If anyone has any knowledge or fix for this, I would greatly appreciate it. I suppose I could always reinstall but want to leave that as a last resort at the moment. Many thanksPhil

How do you know you are at 35000 ft? What are you comparing your altimeter with to determine that the altimeter is wrong?Let's start with the basics, is your altimeter barometric pressure calibrated properly? Should be in the neighborhood of 29 or 30 inches...

Altitude over 18,000 ft. in the USA should be re-set to 29.92. Transition altitudes in Europe are very different, and vary by location, but those differences are not used by the stock FSX, but are in Radar Contact. But you are correct, seems to be something fundamentally wrong here.

Actually it is almost exactly right -- 10700 metres = 35,105 feet, easily within a small error in your altimeter pressure setting, which of course should be on "STD" (29.92") at Flight Levels.Sounds like you have the FS option for metres set. (Metres are used for altitude in Russia and the ex USSR states).RegardsPete

Hi thanks for your replies.First off I was flying online when I first noticed this problem and had servinfo to compare altitude to. I have noticed that I am a complete numpty and had my general settings set to metric meters and millibars. I'm sorry to have wasted peoples time with this trivial problem but many thanks for all your help in getting this sorted.Phil
