August 11, 200916 yr Hi guysJust looking for some help really.I am looking to buy two aircraft packages for FSX, one that is flies under say 2,000nm and the second around 5,000nm.Now I already have PMDG
August 11, 200916 yr the only comparison system and in depth wise to the PMDG offerings is the Level-D 767. Buy that and get their 757 when it comes out sometime this century. Ariane products are good looking but lacking quality wise, and Captain Sims 757 is really heavy on frames and a few small nagging issues. The biggest one for me is virtual cockpit lighting at night and day
August 11, 200916 yr Author ThanksSomething was warning me off Ariane - but they do have that official Boeing thingy PMDG has...413X3, Do you have Ariane's Boeing 737NG's?Think I may get LevelD B763ER and Captain sims B752 - really wanted a B739 though, but if its loopy...Anyone else with some suggestions?
August 11, 200916 yr Al's review of the Ariane 737 is the most fair, unbiased review I have yet to see of the product. You might want to check that out while researching.http://www.avsim.com/pages/0709/Ariane/737.htm Jeremy "rightseater" Fletcher
August 11, 200916 yr You might want to give Sky Simulation's recently released DC-9 a look, for a bit of 'old school' action - i.e not with an FMC. It features a lot of different DC-9 models (so there's some different ranges for you) and is a very nice thing, easy on the frame rates too.As someone above suggested, don't forget the Wilco/Feel There Boeing 737s (300/400/500). It is really very good indeed (not for nothing did it get an AVSIM award), and it is cheaper than the Ariane 737 by quite a considerable margin with roughly comparable functionality, although the Ariane is prettier and has a much better virtual cockpit and depicts the more modern 737s with longer range and better avionics. If you must have the Ariane 737-900ER NG, it's a good add-on, but it does have some limitations, so be aware of those. You can read the review I did for AVSIM, which details the good and bad points, but since it is a long review, here's the gist of it...Good bits: Fast frame rates in FSX, very functional virtual cockpit with good haptic considerations (among the best in fact), working HGS HUD system, good flight model (hand flies well, with excellent emulation of inertia), nice exterior model, some innovative features you don't see on other add on aircraft including nice configuration flexibility, very accurate autopilot interpretations of the FMC data for the most part (i.e you need to do stuff properly to fly it and you will crash it into a mountain if you do things wrong), excellent lighting both inside the VC and on the external model.Bad bits: Some of the more complex VNAV modes found on a real NG are only partially available in the FMC, Fix Page non functional on the FMC, some airport SID/STAR data is not in the FMC, necessitating the occasional manual entry of procedures into the CDU (some fixes are on the way for those FMC issues, but no date as to when they will come has been given - don't hold your breath waiting). Engine fan blade animation on the external model is not the best you'll ever see, the Wilco one does that better.Further potential sticking points for the Ariane: Repaints are payware so it's helpful if you are a painter or if not, be prepared to pay for some more liveries, support is sometimes slow, as is product activation (but not as bad as some would suggest - although expect up to a 48 hour wait for product activation). Conclusion: It's a lot of money to pay out for one plane, but having said that, I think it is the best 737 you can currently get for FSX and if you can accept the minor operational limitations, it's just about worth the price. I like the Ariane 737-900ER, but consider the Wilco 737 as a possibly wiser choice if you don't absolutely want an NG.Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
