I recently bought a GTX 285 after being in ATI land for a decade. How do you install nVidia drivers? Do you have to un-install the previous drivers?

Jeff Bea

I am an avid globetrotter with my trusty Lufthansa B777F, Polar Air Cargo B744F, and Atlas Air B748F.

Uninstall the driver via remove programs. Reboot. Run Driver Cleaner Pro reboot. Install driver.I don't know why but I always lose AA with Nvidia drivers whenever I am online.

I installed it on my win7 x64 rtm machine the other night. So far so good. I did not uninstall the previous driver. Just ran setup and it does its thing. The days of uninstalling the old driver first, rebooting and running driver cleaner have been over for a while now.

No,There is still junk left over from old installs especially in the registry. Better to still use a driver cleaner, unless you can point to some experts page. Please don't point to some gamer forum filled with 14 year old's posts about this!

I agree. Upgrade of nVIDIA drivers work ok without any uninstall and driver cleaner.I'm 58 years old. Not an expert. Only a user with common sense.

If you wanna be sure - Why not reformat and reinstall the OS before installing a new driver? If upgrading a driver was a real problem. why doesn't nVIDIA recommend users to use 3:d party driver cleaner software?

Hi,Try this, run your uninstaller and run DCP and see if it finds anything while cleaning. Companies think nothing is left behind, but really things are left behind. Do you think Microsoft tells FSX users that even uninstalling FSX leaves folders and files behind in the Windows directory?
