Error after install on first flight

Hi, guys, i just took the plunge and installed. I read Ed Ruthans install advice and followed the instructions to the letter. Before the install of tile proxy, I also disbaled driver signing in the boot menu.I installed the 2 cach files to a separate drive, , again, following Eds instructions carefully. I have 2 folders, one called TPCache and one called TileProxyCache. The tileProxyPhotorealworld folder is in the parent folder called TPCache. In the other folder ( TileProxyCache) there is now a folder called cache.service3.On starting my FSX, I got an error message saying " delete J:\TPCache|TilProxyPhotorealworld\0202\scenery\ptx1719 & 1819" I pressed ok, and FSX carried on loading. When i chose my flight and pressed fly now, I got many error messages referring to the LOD8 area of the same folder and many numbered files,, each cleared by pressing ok, and eventually, I got to the takeoff screen. FSX seemed to be running ok, I had the Tileproxy DOS window on my other monitor, , it said, "simulation running"I managed to take off, but it did not look good:2009-8-23_16-12-33-702.jpgCan anyone tell where I went wrong? Cheers, Mark

It didn't work because that;s default FSX scenery by the looks of it. You can tell when tileproxy is loading because the loading bar on FSX runs at the same speed as the circles being filled in on TP. So FSX won't fully load until all circles are filled.I have cache folder and a photoreal world folder, that's all. Both are inside Microsoft Games folder, one up from the fsx folder, I think that was TP's default place to use.Make sure your proxyuser.ini is pointing to your cache. Also make sure Tileproxy hasn't errored, when you load it up, read all the text, there should be a SUCCESS near the top about 4 lines down.

Hi Hardcore, thx for the reply. Re the folders, I used alternate location as recommended by Ed ruthan in his guide. I copied the text exactly as in his example box, except that for the second box, I named the folder "TileProxyCache" . My reasoning for this was that if I did not, I was asking the installation to make to files with the same name. I want the cache file folder separate from my FSX folder. I too only have 2 folders, as described in the OP.I also carefully editted Eds .ini file to point at the correct cache folder, again as described in his instructions, so I dont think the problem is there. What do you think caused all the error messages? Couple of other things, I noticed that a large number of files were created in my scenery library, where is the proper position for these? At the moment they are all above everything else in my library , obviously, as they are the latest thing to be added. Do I need to layer them above or below anything else? Following on from that question, I also noticed that after flying a flight after my failed attempt to use tile proxy and NOT using tile Proxy, I appeared to have areas of standard FSX tiles on top of my photoscenery. Presumably this is some side effect of the failed or corrupted install of tile Proxy. If you have all these files activated in the scenery library, and you are not using Tile Proxy, will this cause issues with your other scenery? Second question, I also noticed that the installation had altered my FSX .cfg file. Is it best to start with a fresh base version of the .cfg file when you install Tile proxy, as I had several settings in my .cfg file that would not mix well with the changes made by the tile proxy install. I have a batch file command that lets me swap .cfg files in and out depending on what I am flying IE: Tile proxy, photoscenery or standard FSX, so its no bother for me to change them round.Thx for the help, I will post some screen shots of my set up and file structure later if that helps, Mark

No, the fsx.cfg wouldn't matter. You can delete it and let FSX rebuild a new one and it will work, any fsx.cfg will work. And keeping them all ticked in the scenery library when not using tileproxy doesn't matter either. I've never seen photo scenery when I've just been using default FSX without using tileproxy. Are there jpg's in the cache folder? Those are what it gets from the services you're using. It then converts them into BMP's and sticks them in the photorealworld folder. Not all of the folders in photorealworld get used, I think all folders correspond to areas of the world in there, so if you cleared all the files in there using 'cleanup world folder' in the start menu and flew the same area, the BMP files would go back in the same folder. So you need to check if you're getting the jpg's and it's converting them to BMP's to use in FSX.Once you've flew over an area, it will only use the photorealworld folder. You could disconnect from the net and it would still work as long as the BMP's are there. It just needs the net for the jpg's going into the cache folder.I'm thinking it's more to do with where the folders are. Maybe you have told Tileproxy where the cache folder is but haven't created the folders. I'm pretty sure TP can't create the sub folders. For example, if you tell TP to store the cache in c:/tpcache, it will do this but if you tell it to store them in say c:/mytileproxycaches/tpcache you would need to create the 'mytileproxycaches' folder on your drive yourself or it won't write any cache files. That's how it works with default settings, because it writes the cache folder inside 'Microsoft Games' which is already there. It can't write the cache folder inside a folder that doesn't exist. That's how I've found it anyway.
