ASA report and FSX weather differ

Featured Replies

Hi JimI've been using ASA for abut 6 weeks now and am struggling with seeing the reported ASA weather depicted in FSX including windspeed and direction, visibility, atmospheric pressure, temperature, cloud cover. It becomes more apparent when listening to an ATIS report using Radar Contact when arriving at my desination. Since RC just reports what FSX knows about I started prowling around on the FSX map and saw consistent differences between ASA and reports on the FSX map. See the screen below showing the ASA report with the FSX map reporting weather at the same time. Note that I had just refreshed ASA to get the latest. While it's not an extreme difference I have seen worse.21s9sh.jpgASA temp 16C = 60.8FI have an unregistered FSUIP and the ASA is on the host computer. Any help would be appreciated.ThanksBrent

Now this is the kind of stuff that would make me mad after I bought. Looking at this thread with interest before I make my buying decision.

Hi Brent,I do have a few suggestions:1. Make sure Lock to closest on that ASA Report screen is checked On.2. With DWC On in ASA, RC is going to report the conditions at your current location, due to the nature of DWC. For RC users we suggest disabling DWC and using FSUIPC for wind shift control.3. The same can be said if you are going to use the MAp in FS. That is the least accurate method of comparing conditions, some because of DWC, some because of the way Map handles data that we can't do anything about. Thanks!

Jim1. Lock to closest is always on2. DWC is always off3. Other than using the FSX map for comparison, what else is there? My understanding, although admittedly limited, is that ASA serves up the weather conditions to FSX - wouldn't the conditions at two major reporting sites be the same? Pressures and wind all seem to be the same at most locations within FSX (see the screen grabs below).Note that these locations, some which are quite far apart all show the same conditions.First one is at KAUG21l7a6p.jpgSecond one is at my destination (500 miles away):10417j9.jpgThis one just pulled off the map at the same time as the above for Philadelphia:156fu44.jpgAnd the last one for an extreme example is San Francisco, again taken at the same time as the rest.zu45tj.jpgAll the winds, vis and pressures are identical and most of the temps between stations 1000s of miles apart. So I am either doing something wrong or my installation isn't set up properly. I used ASX since it first came out and never saw anything like this. Perhaps a complete reinstall of ASX then ASA? FWIW I am using build 433.Here are my ASA settings:Force Destination Wx zone: ONCreate Addtl Stations: OFFEnhance route coverage ONDynamic rate of Change 10%Auto Downloads ONVATSIM online Wx OFFDownload interval 10 minDisable winds aloft OFFDWC OFFFog layer gen ONDisable Haze ONEnable Vis Graduation & Smoothing ONThanksBrent

Hi,"Lock to closest is always on"It's not On from the screen shot of the Report Screen in your first post!More suggestions:Put Force Destination Off.Physically move your plane around in FS and see if the conditions change and if they match to what ASA is reporting. With ASA and FSX running, is the weather set to User Defined in FSX?Does ASA recognize your current location in FSX?Thanks,

I knew someone was going to bust me for that first screenshot! :( I had it ticked off just to get a good comparison in the middle of a flight.Weather is set to user defined in FSXASA does recognize my current location when flying, lock closest appear to give me the nearest station. As far as physically moving around, I'll try some extreme examples like the stations used above.Am I mistaken in thinking that FS map reports the conditions that FSX is getting served by ASA? the odd thing is, my first flight always matches up with ASA in terms of the conditions that ASA reports. It just doesn't change as I fly to another destination - in fact it appears to be reporting identical conditions over a verrrrry wide area. ThanksBrent

Hi,No, the Map screen is not a reliable source of conditions. Would much rather see you move around. Thanks,

JimForce Destination is off and then I started up a flight at CYKF. My initial flight was absolutely identical to the report given in ASA...overcast, one mile vis, winds calm, 29.68 pressure and 16 C. By the time I got to my destination 400 miles away (KBAF) I had the same conditions but not what ASA was reporting.o7ly8l.jpgYou can see that the ASA visibility, winds, precip, pressure are all inconsistent with FSX weather conditions. I could fly all day long with the same conditions no matter where I went. If I 'exit' FSX and then restart in a different locaton, FSX gives me the ASA reported conditions for that location but it seems to repeat the same pressures, wind, etc. at other locatons. ASA doesn't appear to be injecting the weather into FSX after the inital rendering. Something else I noticed that may have some significance, if I close ASA when FSX is still active there is no long pause while ASA tries to untangle itself from FSX. I seem to remember that at least with ASX if you tried to do that it could take several minutes and a warning would appear asking if you wanted to exit before stopping FSX.Brent

JimI have enclosed ASA_Log.tx and what I assume you meant FSX.cfg which I renamed FSX.cfg.txt to accomodate AVSIM forum rules (there is no FSXOptions.cfg anywhere on my system!). Please let me know if these are the correct files.ThanksBrent

Hi,That can't be your whole ASA_Log.txt file. In fact I can't even tell what that is!! Run ASA again and see what file is generated. The other file is in Documents and Settings/User Name/Application Data/HiFi/ASA/Options and is called FSXOptions.cfg It is not going to be your FSX options file. Thanks!

JimThe log file I sent yesterday was from my \Program Files\HiFi. Who knew there were two? :( The 'other' file with the same file name is too large to upload here (2.1 mb) but enclosed is the FSXOptions.cfg! Note that I changed the Dynamic Rate of change yesterday and that 'seemed' to improve things a bit....I'll do some more testing today.Let me know how you want me to send the ASA_log.txt file.Brent

JimHad a flight this morning and the log file is now within size limits....worked much better with the Dynamic rate of change set to 60%! I think that may have resolved the issues I was having where originally it was set to 10%. Let me know if there is anything you would like me to try.Brent
