There's a new sheriff in town and he's got 2TB. With that much capacity and better performance, why bother with a 300GB drive?

Because it will not be so fast as Raptor. I get 90-100MBps in read (front of the disk), and cannot get more than 60-70MB in 7200rpm HDD. Besides, 300GB is fair enough for FSX and a normal amount of addons

Its is not all about rpm, the significantly increased data density of 500GB+ platters plays a big part. The original raptor was overtaken performance wise by virtue of this fact alone and seeing as the Velociraptor is only 25% or so faster than the original it is only a matter of time...When the Vraptor is finally overtaken though the price to performance ratio of SSD's will (hopefully) further add to the "confusion".
