Speech Recognition?

Featured Replies

Hey, I think I am going to buy the FS2Crew 737 Voice Commander, but first I have some questions:I am using the Norwegian version of Vista Home Premium. If I got it right, speech recognition doesn't work with this version, so I have to use an English version. I have tried out Vistalizator, and think I managed to install the English MUI. So now I can use the speech recognition system. But if I run the FS2Crew Voice Commander in FSX, do the Windows Speech recognition have to be running? So that it detects all the other things I might say? If so, wouldn't it cause problems if I for example said something that the original speech recognition program reacts to? And another question; since I normally use the Norwegian version of Vista Home Premium; do I have to turn on the computer, change language in Vistalizator, and restart PC for the changes to take effect, just to make the voice commander work? Each time I want to use it?Thanks for any replies :(

Hi, 1. Windows speech recognition does not need to be running. In fact, I wouldn't turn it on. FS2Crew initializes the voice (SAPI) engine for you when you load the aircraft.2. Vistalizator: I don't know as I've never personally used it. However, my guess is that once you installed it, you wouldn't need to set your computer to English each time. The most important thing is that in the Speech Recognition properties, the Speech Recognizer must be set to English - US (if using Vista or Win 7).So if you can get the Speech Recognizer set to English, you'll be okay! And if doesn't work out for you, we can just refund your money.Best,

I actually have a lot of experiance from this problem. As I have been using other Voice command software since long ago, I know you need to be able to use SAPI and that is only "officially" supported inthe English version of Vista. However, I managed to get it working with a Swedish version of Vista 32 , until they released one of their service packs and it stopped working. After much argument, MS addmitted that it might have been working and offered me a english version instead. Beat that! winning over MS :-)If you can get "windows speech" to work in the Norwegian version, then SAPI is working, which is the engine for FS2Crew.But if MS change anything in a patch that affects SAPI, you might loose it like I did.To be honest, I will never buy anything but a english version anymore. You will allways get the patches early, and lots of minor snags like this might be avoided.Just my 2 cents/ Conny
