September 20, 200916 yr My old Samsung 19" TFT 1280*1024 failed this evening. When getting a new monitor I would like to askDoes it matter if I choose 24" or 22" if you consider performence ? I mean different resolution different load on the videocard.I find 24"s that use 1920*1200 and 1920*1080 and 16:10 and !6:9 ratio. Does it matter which I choose with regard to FS? I use both FS9 and FSX.My FS systemAMD X2 60004 Gb PC6400 RAM8800GT 512M DDR3 videocardWin 7
September 21, 200916 yr No they all perform the same and most do either one or all of the resolutions. If you're going to be watching a lot of movies/tv you might want the 1080P native resolution.

September 21, 200916 yr No it's for PC use with FS games and other stuff. Is 1920*1200 better than 1920*1080?I think that's a matter of personal preference. Some people like the ratio of 16:10 and others 16:9. One also needs to realise that not all games will support all resolutions. The previous poster made a good point about 1920x1080 for movies. At some stage, you may want to watch a Blu-ray movie on your PC; and having a monitor that natively supports the resolution will go a long way to enhancing your Blu-ray movie experience. To answer your question about performance: yes, a higher resolution will mean a loss of FPS in FSX but you will have a lot more to look at and in better detail. To me, the real spec to watch for when going for those sizes and resolutions is refresh rate. Any slower than 5ms (GTG) and you will not be happy with all the screen rips. There are some 2ms monitors out there that you should seriously consider.Take your time, do lots of research, read plenty of tech reviews, etc. and good luck. i5 760 @ 4.1GHz on P7P55D-E Pro | 4x 2GB G.Skill RipJaws DDR3-1600 | 2x WD SE16 Caviar SATAII | Gainward GTX460 2GB GS | ThermalTake ToughPower 750W | LG 32LG50FD @ 1920x1080x32 | Windows 7 HP x64 | FSX Deluxe + Acceleration | FTX AU SP3 | FTX NA Blue PNW | REX2 | JF TrafficX | TrackIR
September 21, 200916 yr I'm also looking in to new monitors. I think it is time that I ditched my two 19"crts. The main reason that I am looking at 24" or larger wide screen is that the screen will not be as tall as a 19" 4:3 and may appear smaller. Are there any other specs that I should be looking at beside response time? What about contrast ratio? I have read that comparisons between contrast ratios may not be apples to apples. I was told by someone that I shouldn't consider anything less than 5000:1. Looking at newegg, Tiger Direct, Microcenter..., there are very few 23"/24" monitors with a 2ms response time and a 5000:1 contrast ratio. It feels like I am looking for something that doesn't exist. All monitors I looked up has a stated response time of 5 mS and in case a GTG value was given it was shorter. So I think we are fine with 5 mS.

I finally decided upon thisLG W2452TX-PF 24# WIDE TFT TCO-03 BLACKhttp://www.dustinhome.se/pd_5010208989.aspx?And should this turn out to be a very bad choice by some reason I can always return it and get another. This vendor has been very good at accepting returns. That was the reason for choosing them. The monitor was choosen because of the resolution 1920*1200and 24"
