Ghosted scenery.cfg's?!?

Featured Replies

Hi,I have a weird problem, I suspect it is a Win7 (and Vista) feature but because I never used Vista I'm puzzled (and baffled)I'm in the process of installing FS2004 on Win7 X64 Ultimate incl zillion add-ons.Currently I'm installing scenery and here is where the problem/feature started.I'm using FS-Navigator Editor to add scenery manually (if necessary) and some of the scenery installers do it automatically. Now after an automated installer has added a scenery in scenery.cfg and I open the scenery.cfg with FS-Nav editor I don't see the newly added listing. Also I have added an entry with FS-NAV editor (and saved it) and when I open the scenery.cfg with Notepad the entry is not listed. It looks like the scenery.cfg is ghosted (and I'm having thus 2 copies)? Is this a Win7/Vista feature and if it is how can I get rid of it? It is driving me crazy.....Egbert :( P.S. I'm running FS-NAV editor in admin mode and UAC is turned off.

Where is the scenery.cfg file you are looking at located? In XP the one which gets items added to it is the one in your main FS2004 folder. I have no idea if that holds true under W7 or not.In any case I would recommend adding scenery via the scenery library dialogue - I used to use the FSNav editor but it tripped me up a few times so went back to the "old fashioned" way. I also use Steve Greenwoods great little utilty to keep the scenery.cfg properly numbered and organized. If interested, you can get it here:http://home.earthlink.net/~smgreenwood/resources-g.shtmSelect the "Utility to sort and renumber scenery.cfg layers" line from the 4 downloads shown to download it. Read the readme file and it will explain everything. Just be sure the exe file is in the same folder as the scenery.cfg file or it will not work. The utility also makes a backup of the scenery.cfg file before it does it's magic. I run it at least once a week and/or after I add a new item.Good luck!

Steve.
