low fps in dx10 than in dx9

Featured Replies

contradictory to many posts and dx10 being more efficient I am getting better performance running on dx9. 25-19fps with enhanced 16xQ AA 16x AF thru nvpanel where in dx10 mode dropped to 20-12fps. no water around, bloom off. was expecting dx10 to touch like 28fps.wierd thought but can fsx dx10 possibly be too heavy for 512mb gts250?

yes.... GTS 250 isn't really up to snuff for DX10 gaming anyway IIRC, I wasn't able to run anything really DX10 effectively until I got a GTX 280 OCX 1 gig. FSX is so poorly optimized anyway that it's probably worth it to crank everything DOWN.

Do you by any chance have the FSX frame rate limiter enabled? If so, for DX10 mode (only) I find it far better with it set to unlimited. If you set it to any number, it seems to cut the actual FPS in half or worse -- certainly much less than the value you are limiting it to. Odd, but true, at least for me.RegardsPete

maybe you are right but I was able to play crysis the heaviest gpu game around with this card at 30fps max settings dx10 1280x1024 with AA off. also the card would go hot with its fan swooshing the heat out at full speed. the card is not as hot with fsx.

LOL. Contradictory to many posts and dx10 NOT being more efficient than DX9, I am getting better performance.... My feeble attempt trying to be funny aside, DX10 wasn't properly programmed for FSX. It was new stuff for the ACES Team and they had other things, like getting Acceleration completed and released. DX10 programming was just a side event IMHO. It does provide better performance even though not really properly programmed for DX10. That's why the FSX creators called it DX10 "preview". DX10 preview came out when Acceleration/SP2 was released and these newer video cards/drivers weren't around then. Maybe if the ACES Team were still around to make an SP3 to FSX, DX10 would have been further refined and properly programmed for FSX. Maybe.... If you're not getting proper performance out of DX10 preview, then perhaps your display driver settings are holding your FPS down or you have raised your FSX settings too high for your computer. I personally think that getting 19-25 fps w/enhanced 16xQ AA 16x AF is absolutely awesome. Those settings would bring many systems like mine to its knees. I simply tell the display drivers that FSX will control my graphics and get awesome graphics and great FPS as a result. Why people turn everything up to the max has always amazed me. The display driver settings for FSX for your Nvidia card were set up by Nvidia techs to get the most enjoyment out of your FSX game. Turning them up or down below these settings defeats that objective. I am getting FPS in the 50's and 60's with DX10 preview enabled (and, of course some of NickN's suggested settings). Something must be wrong...Best regards,Jim Young

FSX was poorly programmed from the start. They should have never let it out the way they did, as it was designed for something that never happened, 8ghz single core CPUs. (8 ghz being an arbitrary number, just to get my point across) FSX was designed initially for single core 64 bit, they had no idea multicore would take off the way it did, and when it came down to it, they didn't program it for modern tech from the start, and coding for things such as SLI and multicore is a pain, especially when overhauling existing code.
