runway priority

Featured Replies

does it matter in what order runways are listed in the runway list in AFCAD? I thought I had read once where those listed closest to the bottom of the list get the most traffic? I've only noticed a difference at HECA where the "5" runways didn't get as much attention as 16/34. when i reversed the order and put the 5l/r at the bottom, then they got traffic. never noticed that before.

If you have runways that are not quite parallel (or the AFCAD uses the star runway technique to open non parallel runways), then the runway listed at the bottom of the parallel runways is used as the one that determines which end of all the "parallel" runways is used, based on wind direction. There also seems to be a "default" runway used in light winds, but I'm not aware of what determines that. This runway (end) will have an ILS if the airport is so equipped.

FS9 as far as I'm aware reads the rwys left to right. So for example at EGLL the rwys are 09L-27R and 09R-27L. The default will always use 09R which in the afcad is the first rwy FS9 reads. It seems to be the default even in winds up to 15 kts. The only was I know is to change the landing or take off designators in the afcad file.Vololiberista

Hi,For parallel runways my experience is that an arriving aircraft will use the runway closest to its arrival path. I.e. if it is approaching from the north, it will use the North runway.Hope this helps,

That doesn't happen in the real world so you have to designate parallel rwys in afcad2 as one for take off the other for landinge.g 27L-09R take-off/ 27R-09L landingVololiberista

That used to be the case at Heathrow but they have used both runways for landing or take-off for some years now.Best wishes,John
