September 30, 200916 yr YMML Melbourne to KLAXFS9 ran for 21 hours. I need to look at the duenna and determine how long it was paused at Top of Descent.http://www.fsrtwrace.com/track/ShowFlight....plGDvMMTRqobfQM KBJC AMD 3900 / RTX 2060 Pro
October 15, 200916 yr I thought I'd try that also Buzz...Here's a 17hr flight from YSSY Sidney to JFK. Not much fuel remaining. :(
October 15, 200916 yr holy crap how did you get from sydney to jfk in the pdmg 747?? ive tried that leg a few times and ran out of fuel mid flight.:)
October 15, 200916 yr Hi Eamonn,I had very nice winds coming out of Sidney (30 to 50kts) and you can see over the U.S. what the winds are like now. It wouldn't have been possible w/o. those winds. I am terrible about documenting things... the estimate for fuel remaining hovered around 7000lbs going as high as 10,000 after hitting the States. That is probably where it ended up between 7 & 10 (total).Cost Index of 100. Initial Cruise Altitude i think was FL370 which I stepped up to FL390 before going to bed. Woke up to step climb again to FL410 then FL430 (as soon as it was recommended). I don't think there was any difference between using Econo Cruise & LRC (seemed same airspeed). Thrust limit for Climb was the default setting.Fortunately no FMC messages until after I got up. That required opening up the Op Manual for "Abnormal Procedures" to make sure I was setting the Fuel Pumps/Valves correctly.
October 15, 200916 yr Makes sense.. :) Now try to do the reverse.. LOL KJFK - YSSY.. Did you have an empty bird or did you have PAX and cargo? Thanks,
October 15, 200916 yr Actually Eamonn,My first try was JFK to Melbourne. I thought if I kept climbing, I could top those fierce headwinds. :( After 2 hours I conceded it just wasn't going to work and put down at Columbus, OH (KCMH).Btw... No PAX, No Cargo. Just a "flying gas can." :(
October 15, 200916 yr Author I had PAX and could not get above FL300 for my initial cruise.I want to try KJFK to Beijing. KBJC AMD 3900 / RTX 2060 Pro
October 22, 201114 yr You can easily fly a fully-loaded 744 KJFK - ZBAA trans-polar 5,942 nm: Max range at MTOW is 7,260 nm. Cheers, - jahman.
October 31, 201114 yr Author I am going to have to give that a go just to do it. KBJC AMD 3900 / RTX 2060 Pro
November 1, 201114 yr You can easily fly a fully-loaded 744 KJFK - ZBAA trans-polar 5,942 nm: Max range at MTOW is 7,260 nm.Cheers,- jahman. Not with the 74F... a "comfortable" distance (i.e. w/ reserves) w/ full cargo & pax (about 123 tonnes) is a hop across the pond like JKF - Stansted. And a quick check w/ the PMDG Load Mgr shows trying to load the 744 w/ max Pax & Cargo about 20 to 30 tonnes over ZFW (depends on variant). Where's Steve Bell or Snuffy when you need em!
November 1, 201114 yr Not with the 74F... Yes, that's why I posted "744" and not "744F" Cheers,- jahman.
November 1, 201114 yr Yes, that's why I posted "744" and not "744F"Cheers,- jahman.Yes I know what you said. My point was, with the 74F... it has a higher ZFW than the 744 (putting the load closer to your "You can easily fly a fully-loaded 744 KJFK - ZBAA trans-polar 5,942 nm")... your 90 - 100 tonne load just won't happen in either aircraft for KJFK - ZBAA.So I am still not sure why you posted "744".
November 6, 201114 yr Check this B-744 long-distance flight: London to Sydney, 9,918 NM in 20:09! (See here at 2:06).Cheers,- jahman.
