October 21, 200916 yr Well my 4870 never had a problem with clouds! It is a combination of all those factors that will drop framerates on all the hardware out there. FSX wasn't optimized for todays hardware. If you follow NickN's guide you will get pretty good framerates if you have the latest hardware but FSX perfection just isn't out there right now. You can search the forums for folks out there like me that have pretty new hardware and yet we still struggle in dense scenery areas with heavy weather and moderate AI. Scott KGPI
October 21, 200916 yr Author Woops! Should clarify. If he goes with the new nVidia card he should check into the nHancer utility, otherwise there are ATI tools to use as well. http://forums.techpowerup.com/But with my ATI and noVidia experience with FS9 and FSX I would stay with the ATI card. Please point me to exactly the utility you're talking about there, I've not been able to find any reference to a similar program to the nHancer for ATI cards, though I did find some interesting beta drivers that I might try out. I would really like to know about the ATI controllers that you're referring to because I imagine they would help to improve on what I've got without spending more money...Well my 4870 never had a problem with clouds! Please do share your settings and mods, as this is the largest performance killer that I've found to date with FSX.100% smooth graphics in all conditions in all locations with heavy weather and addon scenery? I just hope that this doesn't become a tangent in hardware design as developers try to make FSX work, only to find that the next round of Flight Sims works on different technology...
