October 18, 200916 yr Hi,I have a problem with my taxi lights, they no longer illluminate the ground in front of the a/c. First I thought I only had this problem with the Flight1 Cessna Citation Mustang but now I realized I have the very same problem also with other a/c...even the FSX default Cessna 172. I have REX installed which is known to cause these kind of problems by replacing the original FSX spotlight.bmp file but I'm pretty sure I've found a backup of that file but problem remains.Could someone please let me know the exact size and date/time of the original FSX SP2 spotlight.bmp file or if you know anything else that could cause this problem, my landing lights works just fine.My spotlight.bmp file has the size 43 762 bytes and is dated 2006-05-12 06:26Thanks alot in advance for any input!
October 19, 200916 yr Author Since I still haven't received any replies I decided to do a clean FSX installation on my laptop only to get hold of the original spotlight.bmp file but now this is getting interesting...in a 100% fresh FSX SP2 installation on a computer where FSX was never installed before the taxi lights still don't work...hmm!!!Now I'm beginning to wonder if it could be any of my installed 3rd party a/c that in fact makes the taxi lights work, I currently spend lots of time in Flight1's Cessna Citation Mustang but I have also Flight1's Super 80 Pro and LevelD's 767 installed. Then of course I have other types of addons like REX, ASX, GEX etc. Or is it maybe something else except for the spotlight.bmp file I should check.Would really appreciate some input on how to get my working taxi lights back!!
October 20, 200916 yr Would really appreciate some input on how to get my working taxi lights back!!Have you verified that "Aircraft landing-lights illuminate ground" is checked in the Aircraft Display Settings? Art
October 20, 200916 yr Author Thanks for the tip but yes, I've checked that and it's enabled.I wouldn't say the problem is solved but at least I can now get the taxi lights in the Cessna Citation Mustang to work though the procedure is very odd!!Up until now I have only tried if I have working taxi lights in the Flight1 Cessna Citation Mustang and a couple of other default FSX a/c like the Cessna 172 and the Boeing 737-800 (not even sure if they are supposed to have working taxi lights since I never fly default FSX a/c) and I've seen the same problem with all of them. That made me think there's no idea trying any of my other addon a/c like the Super 80 Pro and the LevelD 767 when I can't even get the taxi lights to work in the default FSX a/c. But...now I just tried loading the Level-D 767 and to my big surprise the taxi lights were working just fine once I started the APU. Then I switched back to the Cessna Citation Mustang and now the taxi lights worked just fine in the Mustang to!?So...even if I can't say I solved the problem at least it feels like I narrowed down the problem a bit...next step is to find out how to get the taxi lights work in the Mustang without first loading the Level-D 767 :(
October 21, 200916 yr That is an interesting workaround, because if I always have nothing but problems and CTDs when I try to load the Level D 767 straight from the fly now screen. I always load the default cessna and them jump to the LDS 763 with every add-on plane I have, except the PMDG 747 which loads just fine by itself.Scott Kalin Scott Kalin VATSIM #1125397 - KPSP Palm Springs International AirportSpace Shuttle (SSMS2007) http://www.space-shu....com/index.htmlOrbiter 2010P1 http://orbit.medphys.ucl.ac.uk/
October 21, 200916 yr Author Up until now I've been doing the same, always start with the default Cessna before you load a more complex 3rd party a/c. Clearly something is very odd with the taxi lights in the Cessna Citation Mustang so I do hope the developers will look into it.
October 21, 200916 yr Ummm I'm not clear what you have installed.HI-FI Sim's XGraphics (which couples with ActiveSky) has an acknowledged problem with add-on aircraft lights. It doesn't matter how many times you put the default lights back, as soon as you run a weather theme they are gone again. The solution that works for me is to:1) Restore original FS textures using the XGraphics restore backup option.2) Set the XGraphics Advanced Option tab so that it does NOT install Landing Lights3) Delete all Activesky weather themes or snapshots - these use XGraphics textures 4) Recreate new ActiveSky weather themes or snapshots - they won't now overwrite your landing lightsAfter Step 3), you can try just one theme using the XGraphics High Intensity landing lights if you like. They are supposed to fix the problem fro high-end add-on aircraft. However, they don't work on the PMDG MD-11 for me, so I use the above method to safeguard the default lights.
