atc recognition

Featured Replies

Hi everybody I am running FS2004 and would like to know how/if it is possible to change the recognition to the actual airline, can anybody help with this one please.

You can add lines to your airlines.cfg (C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\Aircraft), and then select "Change ATC Name" from the aircraft selection screen. Alternatively, you can edit each individual aircraft.cfg entry to include the real world airline callsign. There are some callsigns that the FS ATC won't pronounce however, I don't think I ever made "waterski" (Trans States Airlines) work.

If you use EditVoicePack to add more real callsigns to FS you'll have a better chance of hearing it correctly in the sim...Geoff

You shouldn't just add entries to the airlines.cfg - that will achieve nothing and you should never need to manually edit that file. That file lists the airline callsigns available and is what is used in the drop-down selection as you describe above. ATC will only use callsigns that are in its voice file, whether default or with add-ons. WATER SKI is not in the default list of airlines included with Flight Simulator. If you have EditVoicePack installed and have run an on-line update, and updated your files through the software, you will get the WATER SKI callsign present but you must spell it as I have here.Hoping that helps,John

I have successfully edited the airlines.cfg file and many callsigns are correctly spoken. I haven't tried it in a while, but it does work.

Hi again,Here is a handy list of the callsigns available with a standard install of Flight Simulator 2004:http://www.homepages.mcb.net/bones/04fs/da...rline_Codes.htmAll of these will be present in the airlines.cfg file unless they have been (unnecessarily) edited out. To my knowledge there are no others unless you use a utility to add them.Interestingly, that list includes "WATER SKI" so it seems I was incorrect to say above that you required EditVoicePack to get this call sign. I'm not sure why EVP replaces it with another - maybe pronunciation is improved. Either way, you should be able to get it if you put the space between WATER and SKI.Best wishes,John

Hi Joe,It only works to include them in the airlines.cfg file if they are one of the airlines that MS included by default. The default list is out on the web. EVP will (much) more than double that number, and create the airlines.cfg file for you automatically, if you so desire.
