Does it have good load times? Tile proxy is definitely a low and slow approach and I like to fly at 24K or so.jja
You might want to think about giving Tileproxy another look... I've had good results in the flight levels. A couple of the Epic shots were @ 28K, and subsequent changes I made to my proxyuser.ini has improved even on these results for me:http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtopic=262677http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtopic=260454

Hi Guys, from what I remember from previous discussions, the Megascenery earth stuff is all made from freely available imagary, not high quality purchased stuff. It is exactly the same stuff you can find on the net if you know where to look.... What you can do with the imagery depends on how long you want to spend adjusting clours, adding water masks, nightlighting, tinkering with the resolution etc etc. I speak from personal experience, as having become very interested in photoscenery, have started to dabble in making some myself, just for fun.Even using basic adjustment and tweaks, the area offered must represent literally thousands and thousands of man hours of work finding the good images, processing and converting. I would not begrudge someone charging for this, as in this case. I certainly do not have the time to do it myself......Also, I think its fair to say that if you read the detail on the site before you buy the product, the developer is pretty honest about what to expect. He is not pitching it as direct competion for megascenery etc, its accurate scenery on a massive scale, with some compromises in certain areas as a trade off..... JohnCi, you are also correct, TileProxy is awesome, but I think many people are put off by the complication. jjjallen - the load times on my PC are same as normal FSX and I can fly at jet speeds no problem...Campbellsjc - you just need to un tick one box in your scenery library for each state if you want to fly at night. It's no trouble...Cheers, Mark

Hi guys, there are indeed various public domain airphoto mosaics of the continental United States available and different ways for accessing them. I assume both MegaScenery Earth and sim-savvy are using the NAIP program, which has pretty much complete coverage at either 1-m or 2-m resolution: http://www.fsa.usda.gov/FSA/apfoapp?area=h...p;topic=landingFor example, one can use either http://gis.apfo.usda.gov/naipcoverage/ or http://www.microimages.com/geodata/us-orthophotos/index.htm to preview the source imagery directly, which gives at least a rough idea of the quality (or lack thereof) of the imagery offered by anyone using NAIP in terms of tiling, cloud cover, and saturation. Cheers, Holger

If you fly mostly at higher altitude, you could also have a look at FSAltitude. It covers large areas (products for western USA, eastern USA, western Europe and Australia), and is really great looking scenery. It is lower resolution photo scenery, but looks really nice from about 18,000 ft and up. Also, it works with other kinds of addon scenery.http://www.fsaltitude.com/

The real question here is what is the resolution per meter? 2.4? 4.8? Not likely 1.2 since the disk space is too small for that large of an area of coverage. Anyone know? I am a stickler for the higher resolution, it's just looks so much better. Although the color of Megaearth has issues in a lot of areas, as does Sim Saavy (looking at the pictures) the 1.2 meter resolution makes up for it, and it looks darn good in most areas (I have most of California). Looks like an interesting product for those worried about disk space that don't demand the higher resolution.

Its 2metre resolution, taken from 1m source images. It works pretty well I think, as i say, I was sceptical, but you dont really notice the difference until you are really low. This scenery is about vast areas rendered in realistic detail for VFR flying at about 1000 - 3000 ft above ground or higher. For that, it works perfectly. If you want more detail, you buy the megascenery stuff or make your own and layer it on top. Problem is you only have 3 states to fly in currently. This gives you seven, for less than the price of one megascenery state. How can it not be good value? Even with the colour variations and no water masks etc, I think the product is great value for what it is.
