Impasse Lodge

Featured Replies

"A quick note on Impasse Lodge, all I get is a steep hill with no models / objects. I tried a Cessna trainer, chose the icon for Impasse Lodge and watched an aircraft toppling over while being parked. This can't be right. Let's start a new thread and post some pictures showing what it should look like.Hans Petter "My Error. I have 2 versions of Flt3 installed; 1 is with the stock-original terrain detail, and the other is with the new hi-res terrain detail. I had been flying the stock Flight3. Impasse Lodge is "buried" in the new hi-res terrain, with the fbo centered on a ridge. I have opened the package with FLED and cannot figure out how to get the models to "pop-up" to the surface. I've tried moving or jiggling the objects in the hopes fled would somehow "surface" the objects. I opened Andres Airport Editor and edited FBO.cfg, FBO2.cfg, M0AAAG.mod, M0ABAG.mod, "Z" plus 3 meters to see if that would raise the elevation of the models. All I proved for my efforts is I know-not how to correct the placement. 2 other ideas is to flatten that area or move everything to a level spot next to the ridge. So, correcting the package for the new hi-res terrain is way out of my abilities.Following are some shots of the Impasse Lodge entrance using stock Flt3 F5 view. You'll see that Flt3 stock terrain and textures does render Lake Constance complete with what seems to be a waterfall. The Seawolf is parked at EOR.I'll recheck my fastmail acct and see what has happened there, as you are on my safe list in my address book. I want add a note regarding the new hi-res terrain that the challenges were designed for the stock elevation and so need edited somehow. ie, some hoops are buried.View at pass entrance. Lake Constance is in the foreground."Further into the pass.At the FBO. Buildings on left and the Seawolf is way in the background patiently waitng for me to take her out on some Cascade fun. Finally the view from behind the Seawolf looking down the pass.

Here are 2 shots of Flt3 with the new hi-res showing the fbo must be buried up under the ridge. The second shot is Lake Constance. Flt3 doesn't seem to render the location as "water". The Seawolf is "gears-down" on the lake. Had to use zoar because lake isn't "flat".I exported the Impasse Lodge Bookmark to Poi.Txt using Andres Fled Bookmark Manager for any one wanting to import the location to their own bookmark or Poi:***************8479 111433 Impasse Lodge ft7503; a line begining with this character stops FU3 from reading it and all other lines below it. So you can put what ever you like here. You can have up to 71 lines above this ;Information provided by Jon Lewis (Glidernut)This file was generated by FLED BookMark Manager (Andre Meystre)Layout: UTM Longitude, UTM Latitude, Point of Interest, ft000 elevation value from the FLED Bookmarks FLED BookMark Manager can convert this file to a FLED Bookmark file fbookmk.dat located in the main folder of FU3 ******************************Shot of the ridge. If you go here with fled and open the Impasse Lodge Package, you can see the objects below the surface. Perhaps everything could be moved a bit to the right of this shot because its a bit more level:Here is a shot of the Seawolf on the lake. I guess this area would need flattened somehow and class changed to water:lastly, entering the new hi-res pass: Shot with Fled:

I gather it's the new elevation data that mess this up. Which ones are closer to being correct in this spot? Provided the Impasse Lodge location is totally fictional it may be a moot point to save it. However, then it can be moved a bit to fit into a near-by real-life location. I have been thinking of improving the textures of this region...So, if the lake is really there and the pass is for real an adjustment is warranted.I'll take a look in FLED and check whether I can "wiggle" the models to the surface and if I can't I'll try to find out why. Have you tried to delete the package objects and place them again?Added: I just checked it out in FLED. I found the package models and scrutinized the terrain from a distance. My guess is that the pass is an artifact. The textures show a lot of harsh shadows that reveal where the steep mountains are located and there's no shadow indicating a pass where the models are placed. Judging from the terrain (zoom out in FLED) it looks like a rock outcrop. That's how it comes out in the sim with the new elevation too. There's mesa or glacier next to this location that would seem as a much more likely location. That is, a location for bush plane on skis or tundra tires. Given that the new elevation is superior to the old one I guess we ought to make some bush flying packages for this one. While a narrow pass is a good place for adventure I'm not sure there's any pass at all in this immediate area. Further, I believe the dark spots are shadows rather than lakes. Google Earth is next!Hans Petter

Here is a Google Earth view up the pass. I wonder what resolusion GE uses for these images? Lake Constance is in the foreground. I think Impasse Lodge is fictional.Certainly appears as though a determined individual could build a bush strip if they wanted. Enough real trees near the lake for some sort of rustic cabin. Would all washout I suppose come a thaw. Our stock terrain( FS9 with FSGenesis is also the same) more matches the google 3d image. For some reason our new flt3 hi-res terrain and FSX with FSX FsGenesis doesn't show the wall at the end of the pass. Is it possible for snow depth to affect the srtm images at the time the image is taken; in such a way that the snow surface is recorded as terrain surface? Could snow get that deep in that pass so-as it reaches the top edge of back wall? If you go deep enough in, there is a wide spot in the pass where flt3 stock terrain(where Naji planted Impasse Lodge) and fs9 indicates.

Holy cow udders! :( Hans,Could you please post a turorial on how you performed the task? Also, would your methods work on the challenges?jimb

I just used the Glidernut technique -- select each model in FLED, move it a bit and then move it back where it was. When it's reselected it's also redefined in terms of elevation. Models snap to the elevation of the terrain and stop levitating or stop being buried. What is the nature of the challenges problems? Provided it's a model elevation problem it can be fixed.Hans Petter

Here are 2 images of the Hoops2 Challenge. The challenge was modified to use the DagoRed2 Mustang, it is otherwise stock. The first image is using the new hi-res terrain. Notice how deeply buried it is. Hoop number 17 I think. I'll step up to a challenge; but the mustang just seems too big to squeeze through. The second shot is the same challenge using the stock terrain.I'll re-check, but I think our hairy friend in the Bigfoot challenge is under ground as well as the stranded hikers in another challenge. Hoop #17 New terrain: Stock terrain. Hoop 17 is 3rd from the mustangs nose:

These hoops do not relate to the terrain elevation in the first place. Thus, they must be defined according to X, Y and Z directly. Hoops are probably not defined as models. The first thing we'll need to find is the algorithm / code that defines the hoops. Then we must increase the value for the Y axis of the ones that are buried and possibly adjust some of the other ones to make them match.Markers.dat seems to be the config file that defines the position of the hoops. It's all hex code. While I can view it both Notepad and a Hex viewer I don't know what to do with it -- at the moment. I was hoping to see numbers that could be "upped" a bit for the vertical position.

Elevation problems in mountain area:Google looked bestImpLod_google.jpgthe LG original has a good mountain shape, the lake is misplaced.ImpLod_orig.jpgthe new elevation made with SRTM do not show the wall at the end of Impasse Lodge.SRTM is not accurate in narrow situations like here, I have found a similar place in Switzerland area and had to modify this using 3D modeling. The shape is flatten at distance and the peaks will grow when you zoom in, this looks bad also but is a fu3 behavior controlled by an undocumented factor in the geos calculation having a better fit in the LG original than in my geos computations :-(ImpLod_new.jpgby the way Coupeville Nolf runway is set correctly in the LG original spanish version , they need not fixes for that :( :( Andre

I edited the script for hoop #19. I made it larger in diameter and also made it red so I could "see-it-coming".Set normalColor of hoop19 to 192 0 0 Set hitColor of hoop19 to 35 25 25 Set radius of hoop19 to 200.0 Set depth of hoop19 to 0.5 Set position of hoop19 to marker Autopos19 Set orientation of hoop19 to marker AutoOrien19 Do Initialize of hoop19Not the best solution. The hoop is kind of to wide, but is still a challenge to get through it. Maybe I'll work on re-size to 150.0. 100.0 was still to small. Stock was 50.0.

Absolutely incredible are the things you can do Andre. :( Will the lake also render correctly and will it have a water class?Thank you so very-very much. jimb. And is this you as well Andre?

Hi JimbHere is a fix for the Impasse Lodge, now it look about as earlier. The lake is too small for a safe landing and is not classified as water. The end of the impasse is now a bit flat to allow a safe landing, you will have to replace the models.have fun :( AndreElevation fix to Impasse LodgeTheNewImpasseLodge.jpg
