November 29, 200916 yr Is Nhancer mostly for modifying the LOOK of FS, or does it help with frame rate issues (all visual aspects being equal)? I ask because my frame rates in 7 are far less (like roughly HALF) what I got with the same hardware in XP. It's been so long, I can't remember if I got great rates from a combo of using the "perfect" version of an Nvidia driver along with using Rivatuner or not. I used to play COD, and I'm thinking that maybe I only used Rivatuner to up the FR in that game and maybe it didn't effect FS performance. It's been a couple of years so I've forgotten all the tweaks I used to apply to FS.

I upgraded from Vista32 to Win7 64bit and my FPS have increased considerably plus FSX is much, much smoother. Did you defrag when you upgraded? I'm wondering too if you did a clean install upgrading to Win 7? Going from the 32 bit to the 64 bit I had to do a clean install and maybe that's your problem cus you probably left FSX intact with just a simple upgrade. If you just upgraded, I would, at a minimum, delete or rename the FSX.cfg, restart the sim and let the config rebuild itself. In addition, you should see no performance increase using Nhancer or Nvidia's display drivers. Performance will decrease if you set the AA/AF to say, 16x's and move your scenery sliders all the way to the right though. Personally I use the default settings Nvidia set for the FSX game in the display drivers and I get awesome FPS and awesome graphics which is extremely clear. Hope this helps.Best regards,Jim

I'm using FS9. thanks for the info on nhancer, as I'm not concerned with every little minor change in the LOOK, as I am in getting the frame rate back up while using the display settings I normally run FS9 in.I assume at this point the issue is either the OS or the driver, as the rest is identical. I'm going to follow a more systematic approach to reinstalling the driver later on today, or maybe download yet another driver version and give it a try instead of going with either of the two latest nvidia drivers tried thus far.

November 30, 200916 yr JimWhich nVidia driver are you using?ThanksPeterHPeter,I just upgraded to 195.62 from 191.07. I always uninstall my video card drivers through the Device Manager and never via the Add/Remove Programs. In the Device Manager under the Uninstall tab, you want to make sure you tell it to remove the old drivers from your system. Then restart (Win7 doesn't make you restart), then Microsoft will install a generic device driver upon restart, then install the new driver. I use to use a program that wiped all drivers off my harddrive and cleaned up the registry but this method seems to do a very effective job of making sure all drivers are wiped out and you can start with fresh drivers.Best regards,Jim

I am running 2 systems at present in a "change-over" mode from Vista 64 to Win 7 64, so your tips are excellent, as they will work in both. I agree about 3rd party removers - I no longer use them and if you note on the nvidia driver area they no longer give you a method of removing the old drivers. I read somewhere that about 2 years ago they updated the install program to effectively remove the old driver remnants that the new driver was replacing. One thing I did learn was to make sure that you check that the file nvlddmkm.sys in the C:\Winows|system32|Drivers has the same version number as the driver you have just installed.RegardsPeterH
November 30, 200916 yr Commercial Member I would argue the fact that Nvidia remove their own drivers effectively. I just used Driver Sweeper (in Windows7 64bit safe mode) the other day and there were at least 15 files left over (both on the system and in the registry) after using Nvidia's uninstaller... Konrad

I can't believe the techs at Nvidia can't figure out a way to ensure everything is removed when you click on "Uninstall". Wonder how many you'd find by using my method above (uninstalling through the Device Manager)?Best regards,Jim

If you update a mouse or printer driver you may not need to remove all traces of a previous driver. If you update a Windows OS you don't remove all traces of the old Windows first. Jim you said it yourself that you let Windows install the generic gpu driver first and have no issues. Just a thought!RegardsPeterH
