Runway assignment

Featured Replies

Hello guys.I am finding it very frustrating to have the assigned runways changed both on TO and landing. On TO, I get the weather and runway used and set up the SID for this departure. In about 30% of the cases, the ground controller then gives me another runway.Similarly on approach, at 70 miles or so, I go to weather and get the runway so I can set up a STAR, then again in 75% of the cases the runway is changed, sometimes immediately after the original instruction. Is it it not possible to lock the runway selection?I have also had a couple of recent instances where AI aircraft have taxied into me when I am lined up for takeoff. I thought the AI aircraft were frozen while the flying aircraft was on the runway?Chris Hall, Bournemouth, England.

rc chooses runways like this.if there are no ai with assigned runways, i select a runway based on wind, length, ils equipment, etc.if there are ai with assigned runways, i always use their runways.i suspect what is happening, you start fs, start rc, get weather, before any of the ai get a chance to be assigned runways. to fix this, start fs, start rc, and do a preflight checklist for your plane (thus giving the ai time to be assigned runways). then when you get the weather, you will get the runways the ai are using.on arrival, when you are 70 miles out, there may not be any ai landing or departing at the arrival airport, so a runway is chosen based on wind, length, ils equipment, etc.then as you get closer, ai are getting runways assigned. then when you contact approach, i check again to see if there are any ai with runways.do you know what you have your fsuipc setting for ai distance? set it to 0 (unlimited)

In FS ai start up as soon as you load your flight before weather effects are applied and the FS weather engine has completed digesting them. It takes a few minutes normally for everything to stabilize including incoming ai as well. ATIS does not catch up immediately either.Start FS and load your flight. If you are using an external weather program have it update FS. When that is done you can advance the FS time by a couple of minutes or if FS9 try setting up the AI toggle between 0 and whatever percent you desire. Changing the ai to off and then on or advancing the time and waiting a minute forces a faster completion of FS refreshing weather and restarts ai with the new weather so ATIS and ai will be using your intended weather. I would do this prior to preflight so if using a complex aircraft you'll have the correct environment for setting up your aircraft systems.See if that helps.
