Project Canairas install prob

Featured Replies

Hi, need a bit of help from some registry wizards please!I've just done a fresh install of FS9 for various reasons. Many many hours into the install, I'm trying to reinstall my project canaries and am having a problem. My previous installation was in the default x64 directory of ...\program files (x86)\microsoft games\flight simulator 2004. To get round another problem, my new installation is in \program files\microsoft games.....(leaving out the x86 path).Trying to run the canaries installer, despite it showing on the start screen that it will be installing to the correct directory, it proceeds to build its folders in the old 'programfiles (x86)' location. Obviously by doing this it cand find the FS9 files it needs and the installer crashes.i've been through the registry with a tooth comb and removed all instances of 'canarysim' as well as any entries I can find that relate to the old installation of FS9. I have also used the flight1 registry fixer tool to ensure that my new fs9 directory is set corectly in the reg.ANy ideas what I can do to try and get this to install to the correct location now? The only solution I can think of now is to install another copy of fs9 back to the old directory, install canaries, then copy the files over to the existing directory. Thats a bit of a faff really so would appreciate any ideas please!Cheers

I tried to install this to a temporary folder to see what it was adding to my system. Because there was no scenery.cfg in my temp install the installer crashed and would not complete the install or un-install.I then tried to install it to the default installation and it crashed again.I then spent an hour or two removing many registry entries related to it before it would install correctly.Long story short, their installer is poorly written and may not allow a non-default install.Your idea to install FS to it's default location might be the only way to get it to work. That is what I would do, then run the uninstall from the default location to remove it.The two issues that I see are...1) updates will be a pain, but since there will be no further development of this package this is a non-issue. 2) The package includes a GUI to change settings and turn off specific islands. Also it will adjust for some Aerosoft scenery if you have it. You will loose this option, so before you copy it over, set it up the way you want it.All this being said,....err written,....umm typed, once you get it installed it is a very nice scenery addon.regards,Joe

Hi Joe,Think I'm just going to try that now. It just strange that the installer displayed the correct directory yet installs to another one. Cant really complain though given such a nice package is freeware! Only worry I have installing a second installation of fs9 is making sure I can remove all the registry enrties for it once I'm finished and uninstall. Dont think I'll be able to use add/remove programs as there is already an entry there for my new installation. Doesn't look like there's an actual fs9 uninstaller in the root directory either. The only other option is to extract the installers with 7zip although as I'd have no idea how to restructure all the files once this is done, it's not really that much of an option.Ahhhh the joys of flight sim. I'll get a flight in tonight yet! Thanks

You should be OK.After you have un-installed your temp version of FS9 run the Flight1 reg tool. That should clear things up.regards,Joe

Had a stroke of genius in the end. Just swapped the names of the two program files folders, let the canaries install, then swapped tham back. Removed the (x86) from the scenery.cfg entries and job done!Worth documenting in the the eternity of the avsim forums incase someone else has the problem.Cheers
