December 17, 200916 yr Hey everyone :)After MANY years of happily using fs9 my computer has had a bit of a fatal hard drive failure. I'm now starting fresh and considering moving up to FSX since I've got the memory (1TB), RAM (4GB) and Graphics card (512MB) for it. I'm running Windows XP still though.I really like the FMC which was used in the Aerosoft distribution of 'Commuter Airlines' and the fact that I could load an fs9 generated flight plan, add the SID/STAR and then I would be ready to fly an accurate flightplan between any two points on the globe.I was wondering if anything in fsx has this kind of feature with an INBUILT database of navigation points? I have before used the pss airbus (I THINK it was this package) and the software had problems loading nav data (IIRC, it wanted me to buy credits from Navigraph or something before allowing me to input any information). If someone has a good suggestion for an Airbus and Boeing package, that would be appreciated. I'm really after just the panels since I like iFDG and POSKY, but I don't mind paying for an aircraft and panel package. All the best :)Jay
December 17, 200916 yr Jay,You could try Garrett Smith's FMC gauge which can be added easily to most FSX planes. It uses FSX's flight plans and scenery database. A very handy tool :( KInd regards Jean-Paul I7 8700K / Fractal Design Celsius S24 watercooling / ASRock Z370 Extreme4 motherboard / Corsair 32GB 3200mhz DDR4 / INNO3D iChiLL GeForce GTX 1080 Ti X3 / Samsung SSD 960 EVO M.2 PCIe NVMe 500GB / Seasonic-SSR-850FX power supply / Fractal Design Define R5 Black case / AOC Q3279VWF 32″ 2560x1440 monitor / Benq GL2450 24″ 1920x1080 monitor / Track-IR 4
December 17, 200916 yr Thanks :)I normally use A320/A330 aircraft so I was looking for a full panel package - even though it could be added to a freeware panel I prefer a fully integrated one. Does it have a SID/STAR database? Or does fsx have one for all airports now? (I've not used it yet)I'll take a look at this one suggested.Am I best off with the Wilco Airbus package and PMDG Boeings?CheersJay

December 17, 200916 yr Am I best off with the Wilco Airbus package and PMDG Boeings?Until Airsimmer releases the Advanced version of their A320 for FSX... Wilco is the reigning Airbus simulation right now. I own it (Vol. 1 and Vol. 2) and they are not as bad as you might have heard, IMO. Sure, not every single system is modeled and a lot of people think they fly more like Boeings than Airbuses... But for the purposes of the sim (and its limitations) they are still the top Airbus simulation right now. They include full FMGC modeling and other primary flight functions, FLEX, RWYSRS and other Airbus-specific features. They do not, however, fully simulate true Fly-By-Wire, yet. For example, if you move your joystick to an eight degree nose up angle, the plane will not stay at eight degrees after you release the joystick like the real airbus fly-by-wire systems allows. This may be where the comments they fly more like Boeings comes from, right or wrong. There are also no flight dynamics laws real airbuses are governed by (limitation of the sim?). But for general purposes, they are still a fun and robust Airbus family simulation, IMO. They are definitely miles above Commercial Level Simulations and the old PSS Airbuses for FS9.As for Boeing simulations... PMDG is hands down the best for the 747 in FSX, and 737 in FS9. Level-D is the best for the 767 and hopefully, the 757 once they finally release it. Captain Sim's 757 is not as bad as people say, but it is not a truly accurate simulation, either. It's good enough to get your money's worth, but some of the functions aren't modeled properly (hydraulics and Cat III autoland procedures). The same can be said of the 767, apparently.
