What to back up before installing REX

Featured Replies

I've been away from this forum for about the last 6 weeks and the newest BIG thing since then is REX. I've spent the biggest part of today reading as much as I can about REX , the "good, the bad and the ugly". I'm fairly happy with my FS2004 set up as it it now, but I am going to try REX. Would someone please list ALL of the files for me to manually backup BEFORE installing REX so that I can 100% get it back to it's original state if I want to? Thanks jerrycwo4

Hi Jerry, the program forces you to make a backup before using it, so you are safe. Also, for more piece of mind, you can simply navigate to your C:\Program Files\Real Environment Xtreme FS2004\Themes\Backup folder, and inside this directory there will be a folder named Initial_Backup. Copy (DON'T MOVE) this folder to a safe location.

REX has a feature that backs up all the files it overwrites. The only problem is when you try to restore them via REX's utility it doesn't work. Apparently there's a fix in the works. You can manually put the saved files back to their original locations by going into the REX directory (I'm at work now so I don't have the correct path)\Themes\backup folder. For what it's worth REX is a huge improvement for anyone with FS9. The main things I don't use is the background Sky textures and water. Everything else from this package is in use on my system.Have fun... :(
