new copy of fs2004?

Featured Replies

Hey guys, I have a question. I have just bought a new windows 7 computer and finally have all my addons and it is working great. My question is that I would like to know what happens if I buy another copy of fs2004 for a backup. If my current disks get damaged and I use the new disks, do I have to reinstall all my addons again. I am mostly concerned with world of ai because I have all the packages. The add ons that I purchased all have thier own installers so I don't mind installing those. I know you can save stuff before you uninstall but will they all still stay in the memory. I also used game drive before which creates a virtual disk so you do not have to keep the game disk in the drive but it doesn't work with windows 7. There is a new version but it has not been tested with fs2004. If I need to reinstall add ons then I will get the game drive thing but if not then I guess a new copy would be better. Have any of you had to make this choice and what did you decide on? Thanks to you all for any advice.

---------------------------------------------------------------Having a second copy of FS2004 is a good thing. I just ordered another myself. Everything would still be in your FS2004 folder, if for any reason, you'd have to reinstall. FS2004 only removes what it puts into the folder and is 'install-aware' of. All your other things would still be in your folder, and when you installed again, all the registry entries would still point to the same pathway, as long as you never used other than the default pathway. I have done this, and all your supportive apps will work just fine.

I believe the question was more of, can i use the new disk 4 to start the game without reinstalling?. If that was the question, the answer is yes, ofcourse. Also, as you legally own fs9, you can use a no-cd exe file to start fs9 without a disk...but I don't believe i can say more about this on this forum. :(
