FS9.CFG Contain Outdated Display Info?

Featured Replies

I have a single 19" monitor, running FS9 on an older Win XP SP3 system. Many months ago when I installed FS9 my AGP card was a Radeon 7000 (64MB). To delay the expense of buying a real gaming system I recently replaced the card with an nVidia GEForce 6200 (256MB). Since then I have started to install new mesh and scenery and was looking in my FS9.CFG file to see what settings were there. I found the following entry:[DISPLAY.Device.RADEON 7000 SERIES.0]Mode=1024x768x16MipBias=5TriLinear=1AntiAlias=1[DISPLAY]RUNWAY_LIGHTS_SURFACE_SCALAR=1.0 //scales edge, center, end, touchdown, runways -etc, on down through the rest of the settings...Is it possible that FS9 may think my PC still has the old AGP card? If so, I wonder what the consequences of that might be. -Gary

No, those are the settings FS will use if it detects that particular display. You can take the Display.Device section out, but it's not hurting anything to be there. With the nVidia card in the machine, there should be another Display.Device section in the config file for it, too.RegardsBob ScottColonel, USAF (ret)ATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VColorado Springs, CO

I would double check your FS9.cfg file for another Display.device entry which refers to your new Nvidia card.If it is not there (and/or you want a "clean" FS9.cfg file) I would disable the current one by renaming it to something like FS9.cfg.BAK.Then restart FS2004 and it will rebuild your FS9.cfg file using all of the default settings and will reference the Nvidia card only. You will have to reset some things in the sim and/or edit the FS9.cfg file using items from your disabled copy (special tweaks you may have made) but rebuilding the FS9.cfg file is normally recommended whenever you change graphic cards.Hope that helps.
