January 1, 201016 yr I am trying really hard to get the exterior lighting correct on some of the aircraft I have been flying in FSX, however in order to do this I need information about the lighting on the different models. I have searched extensively on the internet and can find nothing on this. Does anyone have any ideas where I might start. I am interested in the following aircraft:Cessna 172Cessna 182Cessna 208BBombardier Learjet 45Beechcraft Kingair 350Beechcraft Baron 58Thanks in advance for any ideas.Art Schwartz, Jr.
January 2, 201016 yr There are a few parameters in the aircraft.cfg file for each aircraft which you can modify. The following code is from the relevant section in the default Cessna 172s aircraft.cfg: [LIGHTS]//Types: 1=beacon, 2=strobe, 3=navigation, 4=cockpitlight.0 = 3, -2.76, -18.11, 2.97, fx_navredlight.1 = 3, -2.78, 18.11, 2.95, fx_navgrelight.2 = 2, -3.13, -18.31, 2.95, fx_strobelight.3 = 2, -3.11, 18.31, 2.95, fx_strobelight.4 = 1, -20.51, 0.00, 6.20, fx_beacon//light.5 = 4, -2.27, 0.00, 1.45, fx_vclight To interpret the significance of each entry you'll need to look in the lights section of the SDK Documentation. If you don't have the SDK installed then there is a copy of the relevant section available online here. There is also a tutorial on Editing Aircraft and Panel Config Files here at AVSIM which you may find useful.Editing config files is not difficult, but it can be time consuming. Good luck. Mike Beckwith

Although they sell lighting software for FS9/FSX there are also posts on where to place lights (accurately). Of course this program would automatically place the Shockwave Redux lights (imho much better than the default) in the above default aircraft. What I really wanted to know was where the lights are located on the real airplanes. Sorry for the confusion.Art Schwartz, Jr.

I'm sorry, I was unclear what I was asking. I just was wondering where the lights are located on the real airplanes. Thanks for the help though.BTW, I once knew a Peter Hayes when I was in the Navy. He was a nuke Machinist Mate on USS George Bancroft (SSBN 643). I served with him on the gold crew from 1974-76. You wouldn't be that guy, would you? Just a shot in the dark.Art Schwartz, Jr.

Other than that, I don't know what you are seeking. Art

I'm as English as George Washington! :( RegardsPeterHWell it's nice to meet you Peter Hayes. That Peter Hayes was a wild and crazy guy. The Navy need nukes so bad at that time that they would put up with just about anything to keep them. He was a brilliant guy but very much a non conformist. Your name isn't too common that's why I had to ask.Art Schwartz, Jr.

I was looking for something a little more than "these aircraft appear to be accurately rendered in the FSX models and textures". I would just like to know for sure where the lights are located and I tried googling to find out and there is little to no information on the internet that I could find. I just thought someone might know some sources I don't. Thanks for the help.Art Schwartz, Jr.

I've been disciplined in my career so many times, and reduced to the ranks,so to speak, that I sort made a career out of deliberately not conforming. The days of the individual have long gone - more's the pity!Good to meet you!! :( pH
January 3, 201016 yr ArtWhat I have found is that there are some great pictures of the various planes on Airliners.net and in many you can see where the lights are positioned, including the various beacons and knowing for instance the wing span you could then calculate where the lights are positioned in the real world. For example, on a C172 on airliners.net you can see the position of the two landing lights just below the prop and the nav beacon on top of the tail, so that would give an accurate placement of most lights. The LJ45 shows them on the landing gear and again knowing the mesaurements you could get an idea on where they should be.These two links give a clue on where the nav etc lights are to be situated: http://www.airweb.faa.gov/Regulatory_and_G...52566870072238A and http://www.airweb.faa.gov/Regulatory_and_G...525668700728C0B.This is the Honeywell catalog for various lights and what palnes they apply to: https://www.honeywellaes.com/servlet/com.me...OATDYEI2IAFK2X1I feel that unless you can actually go and look at the full manuals, ie on a real plane or in a library, this info may not be readily available and it might vary from one model to another.RegardsPeterH
