Coldest Take Off

Featured Replies

Little bit of fun.Just taken off EKCH -7 to LFPG with no de icing as Aerosoft scenery before AES. Given the cold blast everywhere whats youre lowest takeoff temperature? And another thought - can I take off in these conditions in real life?

The MD11 has a T/O limit at -52c I've forgotten what the limit is for the 747-400 but the temp is not the problem, you could be limited by freezing rain or fog, that's when things get dangerous.I remember watching a program on the testing of the A380, they flew it to Siberia left it to freeze overnight and then they had to start all engines first time to pass. It was amazing how much abuse that aircraft took and kept going!

Funny you should ask: I just took off from EFHK using Active Sky v6.5 real world weather. Temp at take off was -21 c! Snowing like crazy too. "Of course it's safe, honey. They wouldn't fly if it was't SAFE!" :(
