Aerosoft Scenery's and Shimmering

Featured Replies

I contatced Aerosoft via forum and mentioned that I had heard all of there scenerys (airport) shimmering, because they do not include Mip-Maps or something like that. They said you can make mip maps but nobody seems to want to answer my questions over there, probably because I havn't boughten anything from the yet. I've heard that this shimmering only comes from people that are using Nvidia cards, which I am. So is this all true? Should I go out and buy and ATI Card? I want to buy a bunch of there scenery so I can prepare for the PMDG NGX and fly for Air Berlin. Anyways your thoughts please, thanks.

The shimmering/flickering, whatever it's called is caused by turning DX10 preview on. You turn it off and it will go away. It happens with ALL video cards, not just Nvidia's. You want to check out the following link for ways to fix the problem: http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtopic=267998 as a solution has been found. If that wasn't your problem, there is some shimmering in some sceneries, sometimes on the fences that surround the airports, etc. This can be reduced (not totally eliminated) by going into your video card settings and looking for Texture filtering - Negative LOD bias. The default is Allow. Change this setting to Clamp. Hope this helps!Best regards,Jim

Hi JimThanks for the reply. Habe you had this problem and solved it? I have heard that turning DX10 on/off has no effect, and the nhancer settings with the LOD Bias Clamp/Allow has no effect. I do not own there scenery (yet), however I did own some Uk2000 scenery and it shimmers and people said the same thing about LOD BIAS and DX10, I tired everything and nothing worked. I really really want to buy alot of there scenery but not until this is for sure solved. Your reply.....

Yeah I have purchased some of thier work and yes it does shimmer with DX9, and yes they don't mip anything for some reason. Not sure about the claim that only nVidia users get the shimmering though. They have been asked many times by myself and many others to use mip mapping. Sometimes, like in the case of Nice X, they added a patch that you can downlaod that will add mips to that one scenery. All the other stuff I have bought from them I had to mip map myself. It's not too much trouble, but it would be nice if they did like FSDT and FlyTampa and mip mapped the textures to start with.On of the fellows at Aerosoft named Shaun Fletcher recently said he was going to pass on the mip mapping issue to his boss, but nothing has been said or done since then. They have also claimed that they dont mip map the textures because it causes the textures to be blurry. That is also false and NickN has called developers out of using that as an excuse why they dont mip the textures. In short, after the last experience I had with Nice X, which was more than just the mip mapping, I am pretty much done buying anything that they produce. Keep in mind a lot of stuff they sell they dont actually make, only some stuff is done by their in house developers. Although some of the other stuff they sell like the City Packs of New Orleans, San Fransisco, etc. isn't done by them, but I have read reports of shimmering due to lack of mip mapping.Going forward I am going to steer clear of Aerosoft, unless they have some scenery that I just can live without. However since they do mostly European sceneries and I rarely fly in Europe I will probably not miss anything.
