January 23, 201016 yr Moderator Hello! I'm a fellow simmer who's looking for someone to create a Scenery file of a mountain retreat to be used in FS 2002. I figured if someone needed some practice creating scenery this would be a fun little project. I would be looking for the following:A mountain location in Colorado, with a small to medium size lake, single dock, grass or dirt airstrip around 2000' in length. Buildings to include cabin and a hangar/ workshop. This would not be used for distribution; just for personal use. Of course you would be more than welcome to distribute it to your heart's content, since you'd be the Author!Would anyone be interested? Would love to hear your feedback, so please let me know! Thanks for your interest!Alan
January 25, 201016 yr There is no problem with making scenery requests in this forum and they occasionally appear here. All Avsim members are welcome to do so.However, they should realize that the people in this forum are mostly occupied with their personal projects, the ones they find interesting and want to add to the FS world. So, they do not usually have the time or the inclination to work on somebody else's project. Sometimes, though, a scenery designer will answer a request so you could get lucky. In fact, the best person to make the project is the one who requests it, since he has the most important element required - interest in it! Making scenery is not necessarily difficult - like everything, it simply requires learning new techniques. And there are plenty of people here willing to help. So, good luck with your request and please do consider doing it yourself if nobody else does. Scenery design is a great way to enhance the FS experience and increase the fun, plus it adds more realism to the game.Best regards.Luis Hot, humid Caribbean paradise!
January 26, 201016 yr Author Moderator Luis,Thanks for the reply. I've been apprehensive about doing it myself because i don't have any of the tools or software to attempt it. But, I guess I'll have to try it myself. I found a scenery package that fits the bill; all I want to do is change the location and add a navaid or 2.Thanks for your words of encouragement!
January 26, 201016 yr Author Moderator TO: The AVSIM Forum ModeratorHello! If you wouldn't mind... please remove this topic from the Forum page. I don't want to take up valuable space that could be used for a more important topic. Thanks!
January 27, 201016 yr Hello Alan,This is an important topic and should remain for others to see.We all take small steps at first before we can walk, then run. If all you want is to add a gravel strip to FS 2002, then you should try AFCAD by Lee Swordy - it's in the Avsim library:http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?DLID=28477This very easy to use tool will do what you want, and comes with a great manual. It is all much easier than you think, so please give it a try.Best regards.Luis Hot, humid Caribbean paradise!
January 28, 201016 yr Moderator For the sake of information, keep in mind that there aren't really that many folks still using/designing for FS2002... :( The only reason I still have the tools for FS2002 in GMax is for those increasingly rare occasions when I have need to use them for a FS9 or FSX scenery project... :( Fr. I've been reading the manual & practicing, and am slowly getting the hang of it.I appreciate all of the help and encouragement; it's good to find folks that are willing to do so, especially for users of older FS platforms!AlanFor the sake of information, keep in mind that there aren't really that many folks still using/designing for FS2002... :( The only reason I still have the tools for FS2002 in GMax is for those increasingly rare occasions when I have need to use them for a FS9 or FSX scenery project... :(Fr. Bill,Thanks for the reply; I appreciate the insights. I've been slow to make the transition to FS9 or FSX mainly 'cause I find FS 2002 challenging enough as it is! LOL But it's glad to know folks are willing to help out.I understand GMax was included with FS 2002 Pro... is that true, and what can you do with it exactly? Thanks again,Alan
January 29, 201016 yr Moderator I understand GMax was included with FS 2002 Pro... is that true, and what can you do with it exactly?"What can you do with it," you ask? For one thing you'd discover a wonderful new timesink! With it you can build any type of 3d model you wanted, from aircraft to scenery. Now, given that your interest currently seems to be scenery, perhaps you might want something like a vending machine for the FBO at your home airstrip! Whatever you attempt though, start with simple objects and modest expectations! No program can be "mastered" overnight...Here is an FBO-Pilot's Lounge-Clubhouse that I've so far invested about four hours in. There's still a bit to go yet, but I'm in no great rush. As it happens, 33MO in Real LifeTM belongs to my cousin Ronald. I've bought it from him (virtually), and have invested many millions of virtual dollars into it so far... :( 2010-01-29 Fr. January 30, 201016 yr Moderator That is an awesome screenshot! I'd like to get to that point someday... I just have to practice, and get more familiar with scenery concepts...The FBO is pretty much done now after another seven hours yesterday. I've only got to build the parking lot for the "Eaglesnest Flying Club" and the access road still. Shown in this shot from the tower are four of the custom buildings made for this project so far...The FBO/Lounge/Flying club offices, the "Eaglesoft Aviation Division" hanger, on the far left is the Eaglesoft Corporate Office, and in the far background is my new ranch house and yard:Another viewpoint: Fr.
