January 25, 201016 yr Good day together...since a few weeks, i fly more and more in the USA...Often it happens in the charts, that you have to fly a DME Arc Approach...For example i take TNCM.. look here: TNCM Charts and scroll down to the last page...Sometimes, like Nice in France, you can choose it as a STAR, and the plane flys the DME-ARC perfectly.. but in St. Maarten you dont have any STARS... ULUBA1 ist the onliest..but it takes you only to the FAF... I flew every time the published VORDME approach of PJM..Im very interessted, programming this DME-ARC in the FMC oft the MD-11...I only knows, that you have to programm something on the FIX page... but im not sure, and tried several ours to fly it :)Best thanking in the anticipation!RegardsBenni

January 25, 201016 yr The post linked above has a very good tutorial for using the FMS.However, I think pilots should be able to manually fly an arc as well. That is exactly what the RMI instrument is perfect at providing for you. Just keep the needle pointed to the station +/- 5 deg and the DME value where you want it +/- 1nm. After some practice, it becomes easy and gives you something to do besides flying a computer. Dan Downs KCRP
