Choppy on Core i7

Featured Replies

Hi guys.I have got a Core i7 860 computer, Fs2004 runs well, with fps locked on 60. However if the FPS drop below 60fps, panning, mainly in virtual cockpits becomes choppy. Say if FPS drops to 50 panning is noticably choppy.I have a Core i7 with a 9800gtx+.I cant see why panning would be choppy when fps are still high (45+).Thanks very much for your advise/help.Simon.

----------------------------------------------------------------------Your frame rates are excellent because of your i7 platform. When you pan, you cause major scenery demands upon your system, COMPUTER WIDE. I would suggest that you; do a complete defrag, reinstall your driver suite that you find favorite, or perhaps update to the latest for your GPU series, and finally, when you decide to purchase another hard drive, consider a 10,000 RPM Raptor. All of the above as a team will go great lengths to reduce your panning stutters, if totally eradicating them.Mitch

This seems to be the problem with modern hardware running fs9. Look up a recent thread in the hardware or video section...same problem. I also experience what you do. Seems to be because of vsync. If I deactivate vsync, no stutters occur when under 60 fps yet i get terrible tearing.

I don't know about new hard drive, format, defrag, etc. Sounds like over reaction to me, not science. When you load aircraft, let it sit there 10 seconds. Then in spot view, use joy to pan around aircraft a full 360 degree circle. I don't say it's a cure all, but it could help with 'loading' issues that might be causing those 'choppy' effects. Then again it could be some program(s) running in background. Check processes to see if 'Google Earth Update', or virus Update, or some other program recently installed, has a 'call home' feature (usually diguised as 'update').After that it could be how you have your page file (virtual memory) set up and priority as far as preference to give more memory/priority to 'programs' or to 'background processes' and wheter you opted for 'performance' or 'quality' (ie: 'looks').Chudk BNapamule
