Featured Replies

Hi all, i would like to put a pc together for FSX and wondered if you all would be kind enough to do me a list of components that you would recomend to run FSX and good addons with with high detail while maintaing good fps. Im in the process of selling my current rig so budget will be in total around

For fsx you neeed the fastest you can get and that is i7 range. For the fist time ever i am attemptimg to build myslef cause too many builders taaking me for granted.so far, Its hardwork, fun, cheaper, and i wount have it any other way.If you want it done right, do it youself.

Hi,I recommend taking a look at my signature. If you want, you could go for the next higher processor and liquid cooling to OC it more if you have the money, but I get 25-45 FPS, on Average with payware scenery/aircraft, with zero stutters and is mega smooth. If I'm over the ocean, I normally get the 60FPS that my FSX is locked to. All my settings are at max, except all traffic @ 60%. I also run it @ full HD resolution (1920x1080) on 3 23" monitors so it is really good. Please note that 2 graphics cards do nothing to FSX performance, I need it for the extra monitors. There are many threads covering this topic. Also note that a good cooler, (with your budget probably liquid cooling) is essential to OC your CPU to over 4.2GHz. I run mine at 4GHz on air easily.

chris493 offers good advice. Question for chris493, are you running the cpu with HT on? How hot does your 920 get?

I keep hyperthreading on because it gave me more stable performance at higher clock speeds without changing vcore. My temp ranges from about high 30's, mid 40's idling to high 60's, low 70's in FSX at high density area such as aerosofts manhatten x in PMDG 747x. Although, this is good because I have a High Air Flow Coolermaster 932 with 3x 200mm big boy fans and a 140mm rear exhaust fan. So case cooling certainly isn't a problem. I also always have the air con on in the room when playing for extra cooling.

Just another tip, if your system is going to be dedicated to FSX only, and not many other games, you would be better with the Nvidia GTX 285, as you get better image quality.Just another tip, if your system is going to be dedicated to FSX only, and not many other games, you would be better with the Nvidia GTX 285, as you get better image quality.

Your primary HD needs to be larger. A modern O.S. will fill that up in no time. Also, you should get faster memory. I know they've listed it as being "overclockable" but I assure you, it is far from. You need DDR3 1600 or faster to really get the most out of that overclocked i7 system. Also, I don't recommend spending money on a discrete audio card, unless you plan to listen to music on a regular basis or are a musician and want to record your own. Everything else looks good!
