Replace bad GTX 260

Featured Replies

Hi,I've been writing in another topic about problems with my XFX GTX 260 in both FS9 and FSX. Some kind of V-sync problem that is causing stuttering and short freezing. If I was to buy a new card in the same price range as the GTX 260, which one do you recommend? Mainly to be used for FS9 but maybe I'll start fly some VFR in FSX. Suggestions for both Nvidia and ATI cards are welcome, but I know that Nvidia seems to perform better when it comes to FS, right?Or, can someone say another brand of the GTX 260 that works good in FS?Thanks

GTX 275 is probably the best replacement. If you can find one, of course. Otherwise, any old GTX 260 Core 216 should work fine. I recently purchased a BFG GTX 275 OC model and it's a great card. 90-95% of the performance of my GTX 285.

Thanks. Any specific model/brand of the GTX 260 that you know works good in FS9 and FSX?What about the Gainward GTX 275 896MB? I've found it to a very good price in Sweden.

The last time I used a Gainward card was probably 8 years ago so I have no idea what sort of quality they're putting out nowadays. The 275 is definitely a better card than the 260 so I'd say go for that.

Having a problem right now.Seems like no store on the Internet in Sweden has GTX 260 or GTX 275 cards in stock. Every single one is sold. Should I go for an ATI card (maybe HD4870/4890/5770) instead? Is it really true they perform bad in FS?Or maybe the GTS 250 1GB. How much difference is it between GTX 260 and GTS 250 1GB, in FS9 and FSX?

The GTS 250 is a good deal slower than any GTX 2xx card. A great card for FS9, but can be a limiting factor with FSX.

Thanks TechguyMaxC for your help.I've now found that some stores have the GIGABYTE GTX 260 SUPER OC in stock. Anyone knows how it works with FS9 and FSX?

That card is a really fantastic card for the money. I was contemplating purchasing it but went with the 275 instead for reasons entirely separate from gaming, namely the extra SIMD in the 275 (compared to the 260) and the benefits it brings for distributed computing.

Thanks.I really want that card. But unfortunately it seems like the last ones left were sold today. But many stores are reporting that GTX 200-series cards will be in stock again in the middle of February. I hope that is true so I can buy it, and start to play FS again.

Hardell, if you're going to buy another video card in hopes of solving your 'problem' with your old...new..card, dont waste your money. You don't seem to listen to me, but I'll say it one more time just because I hate to see people waste money...IT WILL NOT SOLVE YOUR PROBLEM. If you still don't believe me or want to prove me wrong, just go out to an actual store, pick up whatever video card they have, try it out, and return it.

Thanks red1 for your input, really appriciate it, maybe you're right. I have sold my XFX GTX 260. Nothing is wrong with it, works fine in other games.I noticed that a local store has a GTS 250 in stock. I think I will try that one. You think that I will see the same problem with the GTS 250 as well? Or is this only for the GTX 200-series?

red1, if you're right that every NVIDIA-user is experiencing those problem, is it the same for ATI-users as well?

Well I'm not sure about EVERY nvidia user. That could mean that either, A, it's very dependent on your whole set up, B, that people aren't as sensitive to stutter and FPS as we are, or C, combination of both. I know from what I've experienced, I've had 2 different monitors, and 3 different cards (8800gts, GTX 260, GTX 275) recently and they all had this stutter 'problem' present. I can't really explain it more then that, but my system can stay locked at 50fps now (with monitor at 50Hz) pretty much all the time, and what I've noticed, when FPS drops below that (while still locked at 50), the stuttering is very minimal, but if locked at any other number then monitor refresh rate, stutters come back. :(

I bought a GIGABYTE GTX 260 overclock, and there is a big difference compared to my XFX GTX 260 card! Now FS9 works good again!

Red, can you elaborate a bit on this problem. As you may remember from my post in the FS9 forums I am having this exact problem with my GTX260 (see below) whereby locking at anything other than the VSync refresh rate (60fps in my case, 60Hz monitor) will cause stutters in FS9. Do you know what's causing it or have any suspicions? Seems from your post above that's it's not limited to the card so seems in must be an Nhancer, DirectX or FS9 "problem"?

I have the exact same card Hardell and as noted above, am seeing stuttering when I lock the frame rate to anything other than 60fps when VSync is enabled. Do you also suffer from this problem with your Gigabyte card?I'd also be interested to hear of yuo get any "shimmering" of buildings (windows in tall office blocks in particular) even with Nhancer at FS9 set up as per all the instructions online (AA Combined 8xS, AFx16, Mip Map 4 etc etc)?As one with the same card as me I'd like to be able to rule out the card as the cause of my problems before I go and spend money on anotherMany thanks in advance...
