January 31, 201016 yr Hello all,My system specs are as follows:Rampage Extreme 11 Motherboard.Core i7 965 extreme CPU overclocked at 4ghz12 gigs of 1600 Corsair Dominator ram3X 285 GTX video cards. ( Not in SLI).Corsair 1000 watts power supply(4) 1900 X 1200 LCD Monitors : ( 2 monitors run off 1 video card, the other two monitors run off the second and third video card.)Visat 64 ultimate operating system. Question:When I run FSX on one monitor I am getting 70 fps with no problem. I then undock a second window and add a second view. My frame rates then drop to 35-40 fps with very smooth flight. I then undock a third view and move it to the third monitor. My frame rates then drop to 12 - 15 fps. Then FSX will not allow me to run a fourth monitor as the progam locks up. Is there a bottleneck in my system? With the three video cards running on the motherboard is this too much for the board to handle?I am getting more frame rates with DX10 turned on, howevwer it will only allow me to run only two monitors. As soon as I undock a window and add a third monitor, the program crashes. (When DX10 is turned off I can run three monitors at the low frame rate)Should I be looking at the ATI 5970 card with the eyefinity program? Is FSX able to run 4 monitors? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.Kind regards Rod hamilton.
February 1, 201016 yr Sorry no Input, but its to funny, I have exact the same system, 965, 12 gb, @ 4Ghz :-)I use just 1 monitor and I am not very happy with the performance, I mean the fps are great but its just not smooth like FS9!Can you please share your fsx.cfg settings?BTW: It looks like any added monitor cuts FPS by 50%
February 1, 201016 yr FSX cfg is pretty much stock. I use the affinity setting of 15 and I have upped my texture bandwith to 110. It just makes me wonder why each monitor is using up 40 % of frame rates even though I have a 285 GTX hooked up to each monitor. To me there is a bottleneck and I do not think it is the CPU. Regards Rod.
February 1, 201016 yr When you are undocking and moving the window are you moving 2D or 3D views?2D views should have little to no impact on the frame rate.If your moving a 3d cockpit view that would make sense that you get a drop in frames.FSX has to cut the CPU time down that it spends on each 3d view.
February 1, 201016 yr Quick QuestionAre you running 3 GTX 285s with one 1000 W power supply, that seems a little anemic. Also I ran 4 montors at once, 3 with Triplehead 2 Go and then a fourth.I have seen one guy running 5 monitors with a triple head and a dual head 2 go and one GTX 280.It's not the number of monitors, but the number of windows you have open that are slowing your FSX."Undocking" If I recall was something we did in FS9, when I run FSX with multiple monitors, all my extra monitors turn black and I can move the windows whereever I want, is this not the case on your system?
