February 6, 201016 yr Hello,I'm new to the scenery thing. I trying to fix a few airports with some better scenery custom made for that airport. I need to make a whole new terminal with gates.I have already made the terminal in FSDS. Its a problem to place it exactly where I want it. Also I want to place at the gates the parking area outline on the concrete along with the gate number on the tramac. Just like it was painted there. Another area is along the taxiways there are big strips on the outside of the taxiway line and also hold short lights on the taxiway. Last things are how to create gravel or dirt roads around the airport and how to place a airline logo on the jetways. Sorry if this has been answered before. But I can't seem to find anything. I have a few third party airports which are great. When I see all the extra detail I wonder how that is done. Can some one explain how to create and place the things I talked about into my custom airport.Thank You for any help offeredKAVP58
February 13, 201016 yr Hi,if your object/sign is in the standard FSX lib, you can use ADE for example to place it on a position you want. If you looking for a special private sign, let say a picture of Donald Duck, that you want to see on a floor or eve on your runway or a taxi way, you need to develope a simple model with gmax and texture it with the pic from Donald Duck. After that you can generate a bgl and place the pic on a wall, on the floor or,or...I just finished the development of a number of a flag signs and advertising signs for scenery add ons. I just working on the documentation. If you want, you can provide me with a pic from the sign you want see on your AP . May be I can put it into my package too. So, let me know what you think.Dietmar
February 15, 201016 yr Author Thank you Dietmar.I'm looking to putting in a gate number on the tarmac. Or making hold short flashing lights. And also those large strips along the taxiways and not just those boring lines in the stock airports that come with FSX. What exactly do you do to make these items. Is Photoshop okay to use in GMAX or is there a texture program with in GMAX. Can GMAX make the bgl?A square or box? A poly drawing. Any detailed info would of great Help? I'll try it out in GMAX never used it before.ThanksKAVP58
February 15, 201016 yr Commercial Member I think your best bet is to make a "FS2002 ground poly". Basically it's just a single polygon that you texture with a bitmap using black on the alpha channel wherever you want it to be transparent. The trick is you have to use the FS2002 gamepack and export it in such a way that you keep the .asm files. The .asm files then need to be tweaked and re-compiled to a .bgl with BGLC.exe. The downside is that these ground polys are not placeable like a library object, the lat/lon must be specified at export time. The upside is that aircraft shadows and lights interact normally with them and you don't experience a building crash every time you run over one of them with the airplane. Here's a tutorial that should get you headed in the right direction:http://www.simpilotnet.com/index.php?optio...6&Itemid=32Jim
February 15, 201016 yr Hi ,just to answer your questions:1. For the texture of the object in GMAX you just need a bmp pic. If you have a source in jpg or gif no problem as long as you convert it into a bmp. So it is not a question of photoshop, GIMP or,or ...2. No, no extra texture program is required for GMAX . The bmp will do it .3. In GMAX you just need to built a flat plane with the length/with parameters .GMAX is not a easy to use tool however, with a basic knowledge and a little training a simple sign can be done in 5/10 minutes.I think it is worth to learn just the basics of GMAX in order to built simple objects/models for scenery addons. If you need additional help in this regard, pls let me know.Dietmar
February 16, 201016 yr Author Thank YouJim and Dietmar for your response. I failed to mention that I have FSDS that makes scenery. I just started using it 3 days ago. It seems it is like GMAX. I'm very new to this so I don't know a lot about any of scenery programs. I welcome any info. I'm starting out on a very small airport just 1 runway very few taxiways. Also 3 hangers. I'm sure I'll have a lot of questions. Thanks for all your help.KAVP58
