February 26, 201016 yr Good Afternoon,Could someone share their experiences with any performance issues while using ASA and or the Graphics? Do the programs help, hinder, or provide no change? I know previous versions of AS alllowed the user to select different texture sizes to help with performance, and wonder if this is still an option. Repsectfully,Scott
February 26, 201016 yr Hi Scott,Thanks for your interest in ASA!Please keep in mind that ASA is a weather program only and does not include any textures at all. That way an ASA user can chose their favorite texture prgram(s).

Repsectfully,ScottThere are minimal - if none - performance issues, Scott. However - the hit will come from the amount of textures chosen to be displayed. If you choose 10 levels of Cumulus with 4096 x 4096 textures you are going to feel it in the frames department. As Jim says - ASA is the engine that interprets the actual existing external weather data, and tells FSX that it needs XXX clouds at XXX altitude and in XXX amount - along with wind, precip, etc.. HiFiSim produces XGraphics to supply better and configurable textures than FSX produces. It's competitor is REX which does both functions, although many simmers including myself use REX clouds with the ASA engine. Both companies have the very best level of support, with products being continually upgraded. For me, ASA is a must-have. i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.
February 27, 201016 yr I agree with Paul above. I have ASA and REX. I use REX's graphics but use ASA as the weather engine. I'm happy with this arrangement. Just my $0.02.
February 27, 201016 yr Author Thanks for the input guys. I was forced into a new computer last week when my old one died. The new one handles fsX much better and I am really enjoying ASX/Graphics. Now I just needs to spend some time adjusting and tweaking to get the most out of it. Thanks again,Scott

Going to complex clouds will have an impact on your system. A big one. I have an i7 chip (920) ocd to over 3.8, six gigs of memory and an ATI 4800 1gig card. Even with just two layers of clouds I'm seeing 10 and 11 fps with complex airplanes in urban areas. It's a lot to draw. I use REX's "single core" settings for the cloud textures and I still get low frames and occasional stutters with a sophisticated plane or one with a great VC like the real-air Duke. Just be prepared - the visuals come with a cost. Colin
