WARNING PCIe Video Cards

Featured Replies

I thought maybe I would provide info about a problem I recently came across. Watching for this problem will save you BIG bucks.I had an ASUS mobo with a Corsair PSU, and an NVidia GTX 295 video card. The system ran perfectly until I tried to add another PCIe card next to the 295. I couldn't move the second card over to another slot because the fan housing on the second card prevented an installation into a slot away from the 295. I thought I had enough room between cards so there would be no short. I WAS WRONG.I lost the PSU, the GTX 295, and the mobo. The two cards had shorted out. I replaced all the hardware and I purchased a BFG GTX 295. This card has a rubber boot that surrounds the card so there can be no short between an adjacent card. THIS IS A VERY GOOD SOLUTION.So, if you're thinking about a second video card by itself or in an SLI configuration, I strongly suggest you purchase a set of cards that have insulation around the card - or you'll end up with bad ju ju. I don't know if this rubber boot is part of other cards from BFG but it is not on cards from EVGA and possibly others too.I hope this helps.Frank

I have fixed a piece of paper between my gpu and some RAM-coolers that hang like two J
