Add on Scenery

Featured Replies

I downloaded scenery which was designed for FSX and relates to Hawaii. The scenery was a BGL file - aircraft carrier (with escort ships) and hot air balloons. The balloons are in the vicinity of Honolulu International and the carrier is off the coast of Honolulu Interrnational. I tried for days (and in different ways) to get this scenery to show up. Only once has it shown up and now it has mysteriously disappeared again. I am using XP. Has anybody encountered this before? Is there a solution?

How does this scenery install to the FSX? Is it auto install or are you required to manually add it to the scenery library?

If you would provide the complete name of the file you downloaded and where you found it (the DL site) one of us can get it and check it out.Otherwise we are just guessing.

Hi GuysThis was an error reply

Hi GuysThe scenery can be found at flightsim.com under honoboat.zip. The installation instructions were as follows: Installation: Place the BGL file into your addon scenery/scenery folder. FSX only! This addon places a carrier of the coast of PHNL(Honolulu Intl) along with other ships near the harbor, plus some hot ai baloons close to the airport but wont affect takeoffs or landingFor some reason my addon scenery folder did not have a sub folder `scenery`. Either it was missing or I somehow deleted it. I therefore put the BGL file firstly into FSX Root. It didnt show up. That failing I created a `scenery` folder and placed it in the addon scenery folder. I fired up FSX. It didnt show up. I then tried to activate it as you would for normal scenery via the FSX menu. I then had a box come up indicating that it was building data base for new scenery etc. It didnt show up when I fired up FSX. I closed down and fired FSX up again. The carrier and the hot air balloons then showed up and in fact I did a touch and go on the carrier deck with a Tigermoth. The next day I fired up FSX and the carrier was missing again. It hasnt showed up since

First of all what Operating System are you using - XP, Vista or Win 7.Secondly, you say you do have a folder named Addon scenery but the subfolder of that, named scenery is or was missing. (There should also be a subfolder of Addon scenery name texture).example:Addon scenery------scenery------textureThe bgl file in question should go in that scenery subfolder. Then check in yiour FSX Scenery Library dialogue to see that the entry Addon scenery is indeed there and active - it should be by default. If it is not, activate (add) it.I placed that scenery bgl on my XP - FSX setup and the carrier etc,. show up fine but I nevere did see any Balloons anywhere. If you are using Vista or Win 7 you may need to turn off UAC (User Account Control) and run everything as Adminstrator in order to make edits which will "stick".Hope that helps.

Thanks David.I use XP (as my first post remarked). What I am going to do is to download the scenery again, and start afresh. There isnt any `texture` sub folder under addon scenery. I will create both sub folders.I have seen the hot air balloons at the one and only time that the carrier and escort ship appeared. The fact that you have not seen them suggests to me that something isnt quite right. One of the balloons was a distinctive red and I flew the tigermoth right by it. I also downloaded the WWII hangars which were also available at flightsim.com and they have only showed up once (when the carrier did)I`ll post how I got onRegards

FYI - I did not keep this little addition. The carrier deck has apparently been "hardened" but any aircraft I tried to set on it stayed up about 20 feet above the deck. Just not worth the hassle.I am running FSX with Serv Pak 1 and 2 - no Acceleration. That may have a bearing on how this works also.If your system is missing the Addon Scenery folder you may wish to consider using the Repair option on your install CD. Good luck.

David. No luck - I did exactly what I said I would do which was to start afresh with this addon. No carrier, no escorts ships and no hot air balloons. I didnt realise there was a repair option with the installation disk. Once installed I usually forget the disks on any simulator I have run (until I had to uninstall and reinstall). Worth a try I suppose. I dont find FSX half as reliable as the old faithful FS9
