Restore of FSX key mapping from previous install

Featured Replies

I have just reinstalled all of Windows XP and FSX due to crashes in my previous install.I still have my old version on the c: drive (complete with old windows XP install) and now have a new installation on the d: drive. How can I save the key mappings from the old install in such a way that I can then reload into the new install.Should be easy I know but I am not finding it do.Any help appreciated.OldBadger

Hi FolksOldBadger -Unless you'd either -- Stored a backup somewhere.OR- Deleted FSX, (not uninstalled),AND- Reinstalled into a different USER PROFILEthen its already too late.Uninstalling removes your key-mapping file.See - FSInsider - Support Alert: Files Removed on FSX UninstallBackup BEFORE uninstalling.Moving FSX to a different drive is irrelevantas the relevant Key Mapping file is stored in your user profile.See - FSDeveloper - Wiki - Key Mapping (FSX)Sorry that's no consolation.ATBPaul

Sorry the previous poster didn't read your post. If your old OS, FSX are still on the old drive, you're ok.The FSX.cfg, scenery.cfg, and standard.xls are still on the old drive.key settings are in "C:\Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX\Controls\Standard.xlsFSX.cfg and granted rewards in the folder above it. Old scenery config perhaps the same place - mine was installed for "all users" so it's in the parallel folder tree from my personal app-data one.All your aircraft records are still there too in the Application Data\Microsoft\FSX\SimObjects.Logbook in the My Documents\FSX folder with the flightplans and saved flights.Hope this helps.Loyd

Thanks Paul and Loyd,I did try to get the file across (Loys was correct I still have the complete old install working - it just crashes during a flight). It all appeared to be ok and showed the correct key mapping settings in the original install but when I copied across the file to the new install it always revered back to a set of defaults. I am assuming this was in relation to the fact that the original file had different references for the individual USB devices and this then forced FSX to restore a default view.Bottom line was I may have got away with editing the file somewhat however I just went for the laborious task of resetting everything by hand :)Much appreciated for the efforts though.OldBadger
