25" monitor

Featured Replies

hi everyone, just treated myself with a 25" monitor with native resolution of 1920x1080x32. it looks great but the cockpit dials in the pmdg aircraft are looking more oval than round, to save me the time experimenting with msfs resolutions to rectify this does anyone have a ready made solution to this slight problem. many thanks in advance. richard welsh

Hi Richard, Set wide aspect=true in your fsx.cfg that might look better for you.

The setting is actually:WideViewAspect=True - goes under Display in the cfg. That's not going to fix his problem though, the cfg edit is a horizontal field of view setting, not an aspect ratio control. On a widescreen monitor any 2D panel that's made for a 4:3 resolution is going to distort - no way around it. The VC will look correct as will dedicated widescreen 2D panels like the MD-11 has.

Wasn't trying to be exact, just pointing him in the right spot.Didn't realise you were asking about the 2D, yes the 2D is screwed no matter what, but the VC is fine. You may need to zoom out a little to play with what looks right, but I doubt it. I ran that res once and things didn't look that bad.

Here's a simple solution to make use of a wide monitor without distortion in a 2D panel-Drag the right edge of the panel leftward 'till gauges are round again- then fill in the blank desktop with appropriate popups. Here's the PMDG 747 with Lower EICAS display, EICAS Sw panel & Misc Sw panel added at the right. You could substitute others such as CDU as desired.I think it also improves function and appearance.Alex Reid

Hmm Im building my new FSX rig, should I stick with a 4:3 monitor or use the widescreen? Ive got 3 22in wide screens Id prefer to use. I bought trackir so figure Ill be in the VC the whole time shouldnt matter much.

Please sign your posts with your full name per forum rules, thanks.Hard to answer this question without being a little biased. In the last few months I have tried a couple different layouts. One with 3, 23" 16:9 screens, and my current set up of 3, 25.5" 16:10. I've always prefered 4:3 but that's just me. I had a post a short while back that might have some pictures and info you might find interesting, it shows lots of differences in using TrackIR and playing with both the zoom factor (+ and - key) and the wide aspect ratio in the fsx.cfg.Here is the link.Using three monitors is a great thing, but I only like it using the Matrox Triplehead2Go, or ATI's Eyefinity. That way they work together as one resolution rather than using the bracket keys to open other windows, for me that was a huge FPS killer.

Dan- it's my understanding that TH2Go shows only a Single View Fwd- but stretched across the three monitors and yielding a 45

Dan- no argument here- for Virtual setup TH2Go is the way. For 2D which I prefer, the dual video card method is the answer. As you requested and at the risk of being jumped on for repeating, here is a pic of my setup. DreamFleet Bonanza Dawn KLAX on final for R6R-------------------If you aligned your monitors so that the centerpoint of each is square to your eyes (ie the face of the monitor is square to the eyes) you can eliminate horizon twist when the aircraft rolls. Tilt all as necessary and angle the outers to achieve this. You may have to use thin shims under the outer edges of the outer monitors to keep them touching the main mon for the entire bezel height. This will cause the outers to twist upward- and looks strange- but like Buckleys Cough medicine- it works!Regards Alex Reid

Thanks for the shots Alex, I wondered how you saw it. I was always a 2D cockpit guy myself and the new setup pushed me to VC only since none of the 2D panels work @ 5040x1050 (They don't show up at all, meaning all black). Also, it then pushed me to get TrackIR since the only reason I never bothered getting it was because I never used the VC. Well, I can say I'm glad it turned out the way it did because I love the trackIR and the VC has grown on me. To get past the black 2D panels. I just start in windowed mode and resize the overhead and light panel popup, then I can go full screen without any issues. I mostly navigate via VC but it's still easier to bring up the 2D panels for some things.PS. I like the clipboard, that's a nice touch.
