Ground textures where water should be

Featured Replies

I noted tonight that my water textures had disappeared- at least some of them, and become ground textures. I searched here and found this thread:http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtopic=256994Having recently installed the ORBX (FTX) PNW demo, I first uninstalled the FTX textures and the ORBX NA folder in FSX, but still no change. I can't 100% attribute this issue to the FTX product, however it occurred during the same day that I installed the PNW demo.I have also run UTX, and the utility validates terrain.cfg as far as I can make out.Short of re-installing FSX, is there any other remedy that anyone knows of? I have tried restoring the textures that REX backed up (long before the FTX demo was installed), but no change. Thanks for any answers, Bruce.

I have the same problem. Check scenery library and make sure that all FTX sceneries are unchecked. If this doesn't work, try re-installing the demo to see whether water is back.

I'd suggest that you reinstall FTX AU (which you had installed according to another post here on avsim) and then install SP3 as John Venema suggests in the other thread. You may then use FTX Central to disable FTX AU, which will bring back the correct water in other parts of the world.Other thread here: http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtopic=279506Hope you get your water back without reinstalling FSX!

I had the same problem. Had to reinstall most of FSX. Found upon reinstall that the 1.3 patch of UT (USA) was causing this to occur. Simply skipped that patch and all has been fine so far. Good luck.

Are you sure? I run UTX USA 1.3.0a and have absolutely no problem with that version.

Hi guys,

You may then use FTX Central to disable FTX AU, which will bring back the correct water in other parts of the world.
That's not how FTXCentral works. All it does is switch the ORBX custom autogen textures and the land class control file (lclookup.bgl). The key data for water polygons are defined in the terrain.cfg file and the ORBX region installers add the required entries to an existing terrain.cfg, just like the Ultimate Terrain configurator does. In other words, setting FTX Central to one of the ORBX regions will not remove water anywhere else. However, Ulf is correct that this could be an issue with an old version of FTX Australia that still uses the FTX Mode application; updating to SP3 should fix that. It's just odd that running the Ultimate Terrain X control panel didn't already fix the problem so there may be something else entirely going on. Then again, we don't know what specific area(s) on the planet we're talking about.Cheers, Holger

Thanks, Holger! And sorry that I didn't understand the difference between the previous FTX AU mode switcher and the new FTX Central. I have kept disabling FTX AU when flying outside Australia :(

Bruce, our forums were hacked a few days ago and we have slowly got all functions up and running again, including registration, so give it a try again.

Cheers,

Thanks.Based on what I have seen here today in both threads, I am first going to try FSX with my truncated terrain.cfg. Then I am going to update FTX AU Blue to SP3.x, where I should get to se the enable/disable function in FTX Central. If I'm still having issues with textures at that point I will restore my backed up terrain.cfg, try re-activating / re-installing both FTX AU and PNW (Blue) and seeing what that looks like, then try deactivating both. If at that point I am still in trouble with water textures I will post on your forums (assuming I can access the registration). Thanks, Bruce.

Finally some information to share on this issue:I tried upgrading FTX AU to SP3 as suggested above, and yes it did appear in the FTX central menu- at that time both FTX AU and PNW appeared to be deactivated, however still no water textures (by the way, the water close to the land disappeared from KLGB (Longbeach, CA) northwards, but south of KLGB and in other ares of the world was fine- actually appeared like an elevation issue, like the sea level had dropped).Tried terrain.cfg file with and without FTX items deleted, no difference. Then tried to re-activate FTX PNW demo, and got the warning "...\Scenery\World\Scenery\ADE_FTX_PNW_"XXXX"_elevation_adjustments.bgl is already present". Tried to turn FTX PNW off after trying FSX (no improvement), and got the error "...\Scenery\World\Scenery\ADE_FTX_PNW_"XXXX"_elevation_adjustments.OFF is already present". Moved all of these files to a backup folder.Tried the UTX Terrain routine on turn on (nothing had worked yet), then tried turning UTX off. Bingo, water textures. Enable UTX and no water textures (at the default startup in the PNW region). Disable it again and it's good.Right now I have no more time to delve into this- will try and clip some of my posts to the ORBX forum (I did manage to register, thanks). Any ideas most appreciated- for now I will leave UTX off and also won't purchase / install any of the FTX stuff until I know more. Thanks for all the help everyone, Bruce.
