Modifying The Cruise Message Module To Default To The Generic One Without A City Name

Since 90% of my flights don't involve flying to the cities listed on the cruise message list in the secondary panel I figured out a way to make the cruse message play the generic message each time (without a city name) when the button is pushed. The generic message becomes the default message and there is no need to scroll though the 69 cities listed to get to the generic message and play it. Here is how I did it:Step 1Navigate to the fs2crew city folder in the FSX Sound folderC:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Sound\fs2crew\MD11\city Step 2 Rename the 0.wav file to ORIGINAL 0.wavStep 3 Copy the blank.wav file to your desktop and rename it to 0.wavStep 4Move the newly renamed 0.wav file back to the city folder (ie. You can drag and drop it into the city folder)Step 5Navigate to the fs2crew capa folder in the FSX Sound folderC:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Sound\fs2crew\MD11\capaStep 6Rename the sched.wave file to ORIGINAL sched.wavStep 7Copy the scheda.wav file to your desktop and rename it to sched.wavStep 8Move the newly renamed sched.wav file back to the capa folder (ie. You can drag and drop it into the capa folder)That's it. You're done! This modification requires that you leave the default city name 'AMTERDAM' in the display in the cruse message city window. When you push the play message with 'AMTERDAM' displaying in the window you will get the generic cruse message that doesn't mention a particular destination. If you scroll down to another city the name will be said but the lead in narrative will omit saying "scheduled service to" the city name you have chosen. This modification is for PDMG MD-11 sim pilots like me that would rather have the generic message play as default every time the cruise message button is pushed rather then have to scroll all the way to the bottom of the list eliminating the need to right click the mouse 69 times to get to it. It is for pilots like me who don't want to mention the actual destination city in the cruse message because most of their destinations are not listed in the original city menu. The ride and time menu items still work perfectly. So you can still inform your passengers of the ride condition and the arrival time but you will not mention a particular city in the message. If at a later time you want to revert back to the original just restore the ORIGINAL files after deleting you're modified renamed ones. CAUTION: If you are not comfortable with doing a process like this then don't even attempt it! I've only listed this here as a fix that I, myself, have found expedient and have the experience to do. I will not take any responsibility for any problems that may result from program file modifications based of this description of a method that I've used and found expedient for my goals. Implementing this procedure is entirely discretionary and not necessarily recommended by the developers. DO THIS ONLY IF YOU FEEL COMFORTABLE AND AT YOUR OWN RISK!I love this modification since I no longer have to be bothered with searching the city list and/or scrolling all the way down to the bottom to play the generic message without a mentioned city. Hope you guys and gals find this informative and perhaps useful.Best wishes,fs2crew_linepilot-cpt_marvin.jpgPS - I do look forward to a time when the developers figure out a way to read the MCDU .rte file and have it automatically displayed in the secondary panel. Then I would no longer need this fix.
