Plagued With Fatal Errors

Featured Replies

For the past couple of months or so, every time I am peacefully "free-flighting," after 15-30 minutes or so my mouse cursor will change to the "busy" cursor, the sim will freeze, and I will get a dialog box telling me that "A fatal error has occurred" and that "Microsoft Flight Simulator X is restarting." Then FSX will CTD.I've been in the Windows Event Log to try to pinpoint the faulting module, and have heard that uiautomationcore.dll is one of the prime causes of this, however all my errors never seem to revolve around this DLL. I have seen three different faulting modules, no more, no less:- Faulting module unknown- Faulting module kernel32.dll- Faulting module Wpc.dllWhat could possibly be the cause of my fatal errors and what can I do to stop them???Here are the entries from the event log:"Faulting application fsx.exe, version 10.0.61637.0, time stamp 0x46fadb14, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, time stamp 0x00000000, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0xf845c7d0, process id 0x8ec, application start time 0x01caca100330b278.""Faulting application fsx.exe, version 10.0.61637.0, time stamp 0x46fadb14, faulting module kernel32.dll, version 6.0.6002.18005, time stamp 0x49e038c0, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x0001e124, process id 0x122c, application start time 0x01caca0d80fc04d0.""Faulting application fsx.exe, version 10.0.61637.0, time stamp 0x46fadb14, faulting module Wpc.dll, version 1.0.0.1, time stamp 0x4791a783, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x00044b78, process id 0x514, application start time 0x01cabf2b4a3051a0."

Are you using Windows 7?http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtopic=273341Follow the instructions in that topic, I had the same problem and after getting the vista uiautomationcore.dll file and placing it in my fsx directory the problem went away.Good luck!Jeff

Thanks for the replies.I am not on Windows 7 but I'm on Vista x64. Upon further investigation of my main FSX folder I found that the uiautomationcore.dll file was never there in the first place. I downloaded it and put it in the folder and thought I had the problem solved. However, 30 minutes later, I get another fatal error. The Event Viewer yet again says "Faulting module unknown."Jahman, I have never used the Windows Driver Kit before and don't know how to determine the unknown faulting module. Can you walk me through how to do this please? All I have done up to this point is download the ISO file. Thanks again.

I seriously doubt this is a FSX issue. the wpc.dll belongs to the bundled games microsoft places on your system. The kernel32.dll belongs to system memory management. Exception code 0xc0000005 is usually associated with a driver problem. Did you recently update a system driver, video or sound? If so, I would uninstall and reinstall OR do a system restore back to the time before this error began to occur and see if that fixes the problem. Again, I seriously doubt this problem is with your FSX installation.Best regards,Jim

I noticed that all the DLLs that I mentioned were fairly new versions (September 2007, date modified), meaning that they had to have come with Acceleration and SP2. I uninstalled then reinstalled SP2/Acceleration, and lo and behold, my fatal errors have disappeared. I just don't want to have to keep uninstalling and reinstalling Acceleration/SP2 everytime these crop up again, but it seems like I have no other alternative.
