Random failures - possible to have on all the time?

Featured Replies

Hi chaps.I like the unpredictability of failures and dealing with them, but I often forget to enable them :(Is there any way to default to say 1 failure per 10 hours?

Nope, it's something I have wanted for quite sometime, hopefully they will implement it for the 737 & 777 the excuse they gave was new users may activate it and forget, then start flooding the forum with posts about bugs... I dunno it works well for LVLD they have a excellent failure system.

My favorite random failure generator is with FSPassengers X. Although, I don't own LVLD. I like FSP's since it has some cool visuals and interaction with the immersion of the flight.

Biggest problem with the FSPX failure generator is that is too general. With a proprietary failure generator, such as the ones on the MD-11, Concorde-X, 744, LDS 763 and the maddog 2008, one can utilize the abnormal procedures for the real aircraft.JB

I agree, but some people like to practice different procedures and some (like me) like the sim/game aspect incorporated into the fun, or to be able to chose between the two would be nice. What I like about FSP's is it is a % rather than a time frame. So in my case I keep failures at 5%. That means each flight has a 5% chance of a failure and is 5% each flight rather than saying something like 1 failure within 10 hours, that to me is more predictable. So if I only flew two medium hops of 5 hour flights I would be looking at a 50% chance of a failure in my first flight, then if I didn't get one it would be a 100% chance for a failure in my next 5 hour flight. Or if I chose 1 12 hour flight, I would be guarunteed to get a failure and therefor (in either case) be ready and expecting a failure. With FSP and 5%, I could fly 2000 flights and never see a failure, or what's more important for my flying is to take the expectation out of a possible failure as in real life. Of course 5% failure rate has 0 to do with real life, but again this is a 5% chance per flight, not based on past flights where you did not yet get a failure. My only wish is there were more to chose from as there are in the PMDG failures, but I love the visuals of the failures as well as interaction with the FO.I also like the fact that it takes my last improper handling in past flights into account as well as length of time since I had my AC maintenance performed. So if I land abnormally heavy or hard for instance and it has been 40 hrs since my 50 hr maintenance the varibles change as does which failure might occur. Of course none our perfect, but it would be nice to see this paricular aspect taken into consideration more for failures, such as if you flare to late and hit hard, perhaps the % of brake failure or hydraulic leak would jump (behind the scenes so unknown by the user) up in percentage depending on how hard you hit. So a real hard landing would show immediately such as wheels popping or stuck brakes, or maybe it caused degradational failure that you won't notice until a later flight. I guess the thing I like best is the interaction with how I handle the AC as well as the surprise of when I get one.
