Win 7 "Trusted Installer" fix

Featured Replies

While this post does not deal with FS issues, it does address a "permissions" issue I ran across while setting up my wife's new Win 7 machine. Hopefully this will be of interest to anyone using Win 7.To make a long story somewhat shorter, I was attempting to edit (rename and then replace) a default sound (wav) file and discovered that although I had UAC off and was runing as Admnstrator, I could not make the edit as I did not "own" the files in question. They were "owned" by "TrustedInstaller".After some Google searches I discovered the following which explains in detail (with illustrations) how to change the ownership so I could proceed. It works!http://helpdeskgeek.com/windows-7/windows-...ustedinstaller/I also found the following which will change a number of things in Win 7 so they work as they used to in XP. Amongst other things, the way the Start menu appears can be changed. If you are like me, I missed some of the XP visual items and this helped a great deal.http://helpdeskgeek.com/windows-7/bring-th...p-to-windows-7/The above suggestions worked for me - hope you have the same good results.

Opa,What does UAC stand for, and what does it in support of Windows and FS9?ThanksTom

UAC stands for User Account Control and is a "security" setting in both Vista and Win 7 - it does not occur in XP.Apparently designed to help protect you from yourself (making changes which could be detrimental to the operation of your system) it can be a real nuisance by not allowing you to do simple tasks like renaming a file etc..It can also hamper the proper installation of some programs.Hope that helps.

Opa, this is some of the best and most useful info on Windows 7 that I've seen. Thanks for the heads up.

So Say We All!Thank you, sir. One step closer to solving the riddle of phantom add-ons in FSX.More coffee.......more coffee......

I had an epiphany...I forgot that I had not re-installed my Captain Sim C-130. Surely, if it worked, I could find whatever changes it made to various .cfgs and apply those changes to my BT (heretofore known as "Devil Dog" or "DD"...since that is my CAF unit's beloved girl, and to whom the DD repaint was crafted).SO:Installed the Herc. Launched FSX. Captain Sim appeared in the publisher's menu, and the Herc variations were there. I picked my favorite, the Blue Angels.I got the Are-You-Sure-You-Want-To-Run-This? cautionary window...the file was ".../GAU"....selected "Run" as a "Trusted" program.Lather, rinse,repeat......about 15 more times, all various .GAUs, etc.And then....the Herc was accepted and all is well. Now, to find what it changed and hopefully get my Devil Dog flying.FYI and MTF... :(

STARTING A NEW THREAD...PROBLEM FIXED! :(
